My story

[p]As you may or may not have heard i have (stupidly) agreed to run the 2018 London Marathon in April. This is something i have wanted to do a while and this year was my 5th attempt applying for the ballot. After another letter saying i was unsuccessful i decided to apply to run for a charity hoping all my lovely friends and family will sponsor me so this doesn’t turn into a very expensive run........ The charity i will be running for is Ambitious About Autism. Ambitious about Autism is the national charity for children and young people with autism. They provide services, raise awareness and understanding, and campaign for change. Recent studies indicate that 1.1% of the population in the UK may be on the autism spectrum. This means that many of us either have a family member or close friend that might be affected. Mental health is something i have a keen interest in and i have been volunteering for a young boy in my spare time for the past 5 years who is on the spectrum. Getting to know Dexter, seeing him grow up, spending time with him and helping his family has been an amazing experience and has made me want to help raise awareness and money for anyone who is on the spectrum. I have never ran or attempted to run a marathon so this will be a big task for me, I was shattered after running a half marathon....I have already (just about started training) but will be going the full hog and stopping drinking from 1st January till i have completed the marathon (that means a sober Burfday) As an extra intensive for anyone who cares and knows me i will also be growing my beard and not shaving until i have (hopefully) completed the race, the last time i shaved was 7th October and that was a trim which means by the time the race has ended that will be 7 months of not shaving at all, Some could say i would going all Forrest Gump or more fittingly Forrest Chump....As you can imagine the beard is pretty long now (i can lodge a pen in it already) food and drink are constantly in it and my mum said i'll look disgusting, This is going to be annoying and extra weight to carry. Not many people including myself have seen my full shaved face for 10 odd years so after the race I’ll be cutting the whole thing off to look like really bloody weird, I would do regular updates of my beard but no one wants to see that......All jokes aside this is a fantastic charity and reason for me to run the marathon, in a way im glad i didnt get on the ballot as it means i can hopefully help raise awareness for a fantastic charity and cause.[/p][p]Cheers for reading this even if you dont sponsor me.[/p][p]See you at the finish line, i'll be the REALLY hairy guy crying.....[/p][p]Kris [/p]
