My story

[p]In the run up to the Miss Great Britain 2020 Finals, I as the current Miss Bath GB am humbled to announce that I - alongside all other finalists- with be fundraising for 2 very amazing charities! [/p][p]Cancer Research UK: [/p][p]Cancer touches all of us and 1 in 2 of us will unfortunately have a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives. Cancer Research UK are passionate about early diagnosis and survival, keeping families together instead of cancer destroying them. Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s only 25% of people would survive a diagnosis, today it’s 50% and this is primarily due to their research. They aren’t stopping there though, they have a very ambitious goal, and this is to see this rise to 75% by 2034 and here at Miss Great Britain we are proud to now be a part of helping them reach their goal! [/p][p]Alex’s Wish: [/p][p]Alex’s Wish is a charity located in East Midlands with a mission to eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne affects 1 in every 3,500 boys born. It’s a devastating aggressive fatal muscle wasting disease which leaves children completely paralysed by late teens.[/p][p] Duchenne is caused by a mutation on the X chromosome, boys are born with the condition and it can affect any family. Boys are missing a vital protein and as a result every single muscle in their body is destroyed. It is 100% fatal and most boys are only expected to live until their mid-twenties due to heart and respiratory complications.[/p][p] Alex’s Wish founder Emma Hallam set-up the charity shortly after her son Alex was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 4. Being told not enough funding is going into research to bring about effective treatments to help delay symptoms, they set about a mission to raise £1M by 2020.[/p][p]They alongside other UK charities are making huge strides and now for the first time in history, this generation could be either the last to die or the first to survive this devastating illness.[/p][p]I’ll be doing my utmost to reach my fundraising goal over the course of the next year. Everyone’s donations, no matter how big or how small makes a huge difference! [/p][p]Thank you all so much for your continuous support in my journey as Miss Bath, I feel together we can make such an impact on hundreds of lives! [/p][p]Lana [/p][p]x [/p]
