My story

[p]Hi, I’m Laura and I am a secretary with the Medical Accident Group, part of Harrison Clark Rickerbys, where we have teams in both our Worcester and Birmingham offices.[/p][p]As a team we are passionate about supporting local charities that we feel make a real difference to the communities that we live in.[/p][p]One of those charities is the George Coller Memorial Fund which was set up to help prevent unnecessary deaths from childhood asthma after the charity’s Chairman Kim Douglas tragically lost her 3 year old son to the condition. Over its 20 year history the charity has, amongst other things, campaigned for emergency inhalers to be present in schools nationwide. It has also funded the placement of a number of specialist asthma nurses in local hospitals[/p][p]The work that this charity does means so much to myself and my son, Owen, who is 11 years old and suffers from asthma. When Owen was 2 years old he suffered a severe asthma attack and was rushed to hospital and had to be nebulised 12 times. As a result Owen now has to take his inhalers twice daily.[/p][p]To coincide with World Asthma Day on 4th May, Owen and I have decided to take on the Couch to 5k challenge in order to raise valuable funds for the George Coller memorial Fund. One of the reasons we have chosen the challenge is because exercise can have proven benefits for asthma sufferers in particular to help with their breathing.[/p][p]As asthma is such a common condition it would be great if others could join us with their own Couch to 5k challenge to raise as much money as possible; or otherwise sponsor myself and Owen and to help with our motivation during the course of the 9 week programme![/p][p]Thank you![/p][p][br][/p]
