My story

[p]Hi Guys!  And thank you for visiting my page x[/p][p][/p][p]My Story:[/p][p]At exactly 29 weeks gestation on the 14th November 2011, my first son Joshua was born prematurely via emergency c-section at the RCHT weighing a mere 2lb 4oz....and as a result Josh then spent a further 6 weeks in an incubator and a total of 9 weeks under the hospitals care, fighting for his life at times.  As a parent, it was heartbreaking every single time we had to leave our tiny little boy to make the long journey home to spend another night without our baby - our hearts were left in that tiny plastic box.[/p][p]Both myself and my husband, our extended families and friends spent these long weeks making often twice daily trips to and from the Neo Natal unit from our home 18 miles away.  This is a journey we have also made many times over the next few years as a result of his prematurity and one we will never forget.[/p][p]Every day many familes are facing similar journeys, leaving their babies, and experiencing an emotional and physical wrench like no other.  Until more recently there was very limited space for babies at the Neo Natal unit.  This meant that - because Treliske is the only Neo Natal unit in cornwall - when space for admissions ran out, babies would need to be transfered to Derriford in Plymouth (45 mins drive away) or even further afield.  The hospital is now appealing for funds to improve the services and equipment at the larger new Neo Natal unit.[/p][p]Also:  The current maternity suite desperately needs a facelift as birthing rates hit an all time high and current services are hard to maintain.  They also hope to open a new suite for mums who would like a water birth and this will include extra beds. [/p][p]The Aim:[/p][p]To raise funds for the Birth And Baby Appeal (BABA).  To raise awareness of prematurity, the journey travelled and experiences that parents of a prem baby endure, and to highlight post-natal depression following premature births.[/p][p][/p][p]My Challenge:[/p][p]As part of my 8 week preperation for my eventual participation at The UKBFF British Finals Bodybuilding Championships on 14th October 2017, I intend to incorporate an 18 mile swimming challenge into my training programme to commence on SAT 21ST AUGUST.  this will involve swimming a total of 29,700 metres and approx 2121 lengths over the 8 weeks leading up to the competition at my local swimming pool![/p][p]This works out to around 265 lengths per week, and i LOVE to swim so it's a winner for everyone!![/p][p][/p][p]Thankyou for your donation to this totally worthy cause and I appreciate your support,[/p][p][/p][p]Much love, Laura x[/p][p][/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
