My story

[p]**23/04/18: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! 2018 London Marathon completed in record heat! I managed 3hr 36m in front of the amazing London crowds. Thanks to some extremely generous donations over the weekend I set off on the run with the knowledge that we have raised over £5k for the hospitals - thanks so so much to everyone who has followed my updates and donated. I understand that the combined runners for the hospitals have raised tens-of-thousands of pounds this year which is really fantastic. The Belfast Telegraph have a short piece on my fundraising and the marathon - https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/uk/terror-attack-victim-runs-marathon-after-recovering-from-injury-36832231.html[/p][p]*16/04/18: Today's Evening Standard has an article on my fundraising for the hospitals -https://www.standard.co.uk/news/health/victim-of-nice-attack-runs-marathon-for-hospital-that-rebuilt-his-hand-a3814621.html - Thanks everyone for your kind donations *[/p][p]*13/04/18: JUST OVER ONE WEEK TO GO. I've nearly reached £4,000, so let's see if we can push on to £4,500! Please keep donating to help the hospitals**[/p][p]I am raising money for Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals - two hospitals very close to my heart thanks to their help over the last year and a half.[/p][p]I was injured in the Bastille Day terrorist attack in Nice in July 2016. Though lucky not to be more seriously injured, I suffered a severe fracture to my right wrist, breaking it in over a dozen places. On returning to the UK, I was treated initially at A&E at St Thomas' and then under the care of the orthopaedic team at Guy's Hospital. [/p][p]Like many others, I received excellent care that has been both supportive and successful, in that I have now regained most of the movement in my wrist. The team gave a real focus on getting the best possible outcome in repairing my wrist, and not just patching it up; an approach for which I am extremely grateful. [/p][p]I ran the 2018 London Marathon (my first marathon!) to raise money for the hospitals which have done so much to support my recovery and to help them to continue their excellent work in improving the lives of patients requiring orthopaedic surgery.[/p][p]NHS funding is very stretched, so any donation you are able to offer through this fundraiser will be very well received by the hospitals.[/p]
