My story

[p]I will be taking part in both Glasgow and London Nightrider both 100km cycles around the cities at night. Why did I choose these events cycling become a huge part of my life back in summer 2015 when while I was still going through rehabilitation to walk properly again. (I have Epilepsy and due to a prolonged seizure in summer 2015 I was left with Hemiparsis of my left side) One of the exercises was a static bike which was helping me build muscle in my leg. I made it a goal when I left hospital I would learn to ride a bike. With a couple of modifications and adjustments I managed to set my bike up to where I could reach levers with limited movement in my hand. A foot strap on my left pedal which kept my foot in place as i still don't have much control of placement of my foot and cant feel the pedal. Cycling became my rehabilitation I gained so much strength and movement back. Cycling is still a challenge with my health I've got some much to factor in before these events. The Nightriders is by far the hardest theres so much more to my Epilepsy than just the seizures. Side effects of medication my body does not regulate its temperature I can't tell if am to hot or if am cold until it's to late. Am either over heating or shivering. Theres the lack of sleep which is a big trigger for my seizures. The flashing of bike lights, bright car lights even though wont normally trigger a seizure it makes me twitch. So why do I push myself I would like to show that putting your mind to something. Preparing properly that the hardest challenges can be achieved. [/p][p] I chosen to raise money for Over the Wall, Over the wall offer camps to children and family members affected by a serious health challenge.[/p][p] There are an estimated 50,000 children and young people in the UK living with a serious health challenge. For these young people, quality of life is adversely affected by isolation and their inability to participate in many of the everyday activities enjoyed by their friends and peers. This often results in a growing lack of self-esteem and confidence which can become a barrier to future growth and development. Over The Wall’s residential programmes are designed to bring about transformational change to tackle these issues and to ensure our campers return home with a new sense of their abilities and ambitions, and feeling far less isolated.[/p][p] I've volunteered at two camps this year a siblings camp and a family camp. Seeing what a difference Over The Wall makes to these kids and families is amazing[/p][p]UPDATE -[/p][p]London Nightrider route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29981485 - 8th June - 23:15 Start time[/p][p]Glasgow Nightrider route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30009429?privacy_code=Q1FXF44bUoTgXmbh - 22nd June - 22:50 start time[/p]
