My story

[p]With the beginning of a new year come the resolutions we make (and break!) to lose weight, get fit, start a new hobby etc., however, I decided I wanted 2014 to be the year I do something positive and try to make a (albeit very small) difference in the world.[/p] [p]I think most of us have been affected by Cancer at some point in their lives.  I myself have lost several people I love to this horrible disease – my nan, granddad, aunt, uncle and godmother – but, I’ve also been lucky enough to see my mum beat it and my best friend’s aunt is currently winning her battle against it too.[/p] [p]The two charities I have chosen to raise funds for this year represent both sides of the Cancer story – Cancer Research UK working with scientists to find cures, and Macmillan providing much needed support to those suffering with the disease and their loved ones.[/p] [p]So, what am I going to be doing over the next 12-months to warrant you donating your pennies?[/p] [p]Well, each month I’m going to be giving up one thing that I love; some of them may not seem much to other people, but these are the things that play a part in my life (mostly foodstuffs, ha!) and I’m definitely going to miss having them for a month![/p] [p]JANUARY:  Alcohol[/p] [p]FEBRUARY:  Crisps[/p] [p]MARCH:  Music (no playing it myself/listening to the radio – can’t help if it’s on in a shop etc!)[/p] [p]APRIL:  Swearing (I’ll donate 10p myself every time I slip)[/p] [p]MAY:  Bread[/p] [p]JUNE:  Flat shoes (which I rely on most days since I damaged my Achilles)[/p] [p]JULY:  My car (the only exception being commuting)[/p] [p]AUGUST:  Tea/Coffee[/p] [p]SEPTEMBER:  Potatoes[/p] [p]OCTOBER:  Jewellery[/p] [p]NOVEMBER:  Chocolate[/p] [p]DECEMBER:  Reading the news[/p] [lt]p style="text-align: center;"[gt]I love all of these things and can’t imagine going a month without any of them![/p] [p]I decided to use Virgin Money Giving as they are a not-for-profit organisation unlike some other fundraising websites, so more of the money goes to the charities.  Also, if you’re eligible for Gift Aid please do click the button as that means the charities receive an extra couple of pounds and every penny really does count in our fight against Cancer.[/p][p][/p] [lt]p style="text-align: center;"[gt]Thank you to anyone who donates, it really does mean the world to me![/p] [p][/p]
