My story

[p]In September 2021, (yes just three weeks from now!) I will be taking on the biggest challenge I've ever done, and hope to raise a lot of money for two incredible charities in the process![/p][p]What?[/p][p]First up in September, I'm hiking the three highest summits in the UK and cycling myself over 1,000km and 10,000m elevation between them.[/p][p]Starting with Ben Nevis I'll be pedalling solo and unsupported down to the Lake District and then onto Snowdon.[/p][p]This is further than the official Three Peaks Challenge for a few reasons:[/p][p]I'm taking the scenic route between Glasgow & Carlisle to avoid the busy main roads[/p][p]I'll be cycling home from Snowdon to the West Midlands (because we all know how hard it is to get a bike reservation on the train!)[/p][p]I'm stupidly making this harder for myself in the hope you'll be generous with your donation![/p][p]Secondly, at the end of October I will be cycling the Coast 2 Coast following the 275km Way of the Roses route from Morecambe to Bridlington over 2 days.[/p][p]Why?[/p][p]The last 18 months have been tough for all of us for many different reasons. [/p][p]For me, my world suddenly got very small, after giving up my job, my home, my car and getting set to travel for a year. I found myself isolated with no friends nearby, no transport, no day to day interactions with colleagues as I was out of work for a few months, and my mental health was not in a good place.[/p][p]I found my way back to being my best through cycling, getting outdoors and taking on my first big bike tour earlier this year.[/p][p]I truly believe in the power of movement, nature and adventures for building resilience, confidence and for the amazing benefits to both physical and mental health.[/p][p]That's why I've picked two very special charities to raise money for...[/p][p]The Wilderness Foundation UK[/p][p]The Wilderness Foundation UK harnesses the power of the wilderness to transform vulnerable lives and empowers people to conserve nature.[/p][p]They engage over 6,000 people per year with the benefits and enjoyment of wild nature. Programmes develop future sustainability leaders, build resilience in vulnerable teenagers with challenging lives and mental health issues, introduce rural employment to urban youth, and bring curriculum-based sciences to life in the outdoors.[/p][p]Millimetres 2 Mountains[/p][p]Millimetres 2 Mountains creates positive change for people who are facing mental health challenges as a result of encountering adversity in their lives. Through exploration, adventure and the great outdoors they inspire and support individuals to redefine their own limitations and take steps towards a brighter future. [/p][p]Whether it be because of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression or overcoming a physical disability they believe in the healing power of purpose, progress and perseverance.[/p][p]---[/p][p]Hopefully you'll agree two very worthy causes![/p][p]I'm not going to lie, I'm very nervous about taking on a challenge of this magnitude - although I've completed one bike tour, this will be double the average daily distance from my last trip. I have two very big days of over 100 miles in the plan, and it's the first time I've ever done anything multidiscipline with the hikes. So please donate what you can, I know raising money for these two charities is going to keep me motivated when this challenge inevitably gets tough![/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]Lindsey[/p]
