My story

[p]Hello, [/p][p]Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am running the Royal Parks half marathon in October on behalf of an amazing charity called Children & the Arts. Working with arts venues, hospices and schools throughout the UK, they create opportunities for disadvantaged and sick children to access the arts. Without their work these opportunities might not otherwise exist. [/p][p]My first memory of the art world came on my ninth birthday when my Granny (that's her in the picture with me - right - and my little sis) took me to see Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House. It triggered a lifelong love of ballet and I've no doubt that the pleasure I get in all art forms has its roots in that experience. [/p][p]I was lucky. The Warwick Commission 2015 report show that arts participation among children is on the decline and thousands of children leave school having never set foot in an art gallery, watched a performance in a theatre, or listened to an orchestra. And yet, early arts engagement can have a huge impact on aspirations, confidence and communication skills.[/p][p]I will be raising money specifically for Children & the Arts's Start Hospices programme. The complexity of care required by children living with life-limiting illness means that they and their family are rarely able to go on family outings and siblings are often left feeling overlooked. Start Hospices provides a range of activities such as sensory workshops for the poorly children to help self-expression and engagement with the arts, and tailored programme for siblings allowing them to explore their creativity and share that with their family. [/p][p]So far, they've already worked with more than 1,000 children and their families. Your donation can help them work with more.[/p][p]Thank you for your support.[/p][p]Lisax[/p]
