Team story

[p]Six years ago, Trevor Dowd, Matt Clare and Sam Sananes ran the 2012 London Marathon wearing 6ft costumes which were replicas of St. Paul's Cathedral, The Gherkin and Big Ben. Tragically in March last year, Sam passed away after a short illness, aged just 39, leaving behind his wife and two young children. [/p][p]Following Sam’s untimely death, the Sam Sananes Legacy has been established and it is funded through direct donations and fundraising events. The Legacy is incorporated into the overall governance and sports award programme of Boost Charitable Trust (www.boostct.org). Grants awarded out of the Legacy funds are intended to have regard to Sam’s own sporting interests and, where appropriate, his home town of Leicester and his support for the disadvantaged and disabled.[/p][p]On 25th March 2018, Trevor and Matt will be joined by Ian Houston, Ben Goodberry, Ed Brown and Rachel Harris (Sam's sister) in attempting to run the inaugural London Landmarks Half Marathon, wearing replicas of six of London's most iconic landmarks - St. Paul's Cathedral (Trevor), The Gherkin (Matt), The London Eye (Ben), The Shard (Ian), The Cheesegrater (Ed) and, like her brother six years ago, Big Ben (Rachel). [/p][p]The team is raising money for RaceRunning, a project backed by Sam's Legacy. RaceRunning is a new sport in England which has been developed for children and young people who cannot functionally run and rely on support aids for mobility and balance. The RaceRunner is a three-wheeled frame where the athlete is supported by a saddle and body plate. Last year it was announced that RaceRunning was to be included in the International Paralympic programme effective from 1st January 2018. Tokyo 2020 is therefore very much in everyone's minds.[/p][p]We are targeting to raise £20,000 which will be used to launch at least ten regional development hubs, including one in Leicestershire, Sam's home county.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to RaceRunning. Virgin Money Giving is a not-for-profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Many thanks[/p][p]Matt, Trevor, Rachel, Ian, Ben and Ed.[/p]
