My story

[p]I feel privileged to have run the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April 2018 for Rights of Women, a charity for whom I have been volunteering for the past 14 years. I volunteer on the RoW family law advice line. [/p][p]RoW runs three advice lines, the family law line, an immigration law line and a sexual violence helpline. Thousands of women are provided free and confidential legal advice on the advice lines each year. This service has become ever more important since the government's cuts to legal aid introduced in 2013.[/p][p]RoW works to ensure that women’s voices are heard at the highest levels and to bring about real change in women’s access to the law and justice. In addition to the advice provided the charity is involved in campaigning to improve women's rights and access to justice. In 2017 RoW was succesful in overturning legal aid cuts that had required women who had suffered domestic violence to provide written evidence that they had been a victim of violence within the previous two years at the point at which they sought legal aid. The government has been forced to overturn the time limitation and now, thanks to the tireless work of this tiny charity women who have suffered domestic violence are able to access legal aid representation in court proceedings against their abuser no matter how old the abuse. [/p][p]I am proud to run on behalf of this wonderful organisation. I hope that you are able to assist me to assist the charity by providing a donation. Every penny helps.[/p][p]The marathon was incredibly hard in that blazing hot sun on 22nd April but I am incredibly happy to see the money raised from my endeavours and thank you all for all your support, kind words and donations. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
