My story

[p]I’m putting on my running shoes to raise money for the Gloucester and District Samaritans branch. Staffed by 100 volunteers, there’s a Samaritan at the end of the phone or on email 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year to listen to anyone who needs somebody to speak to. You can even see them in person. They make no judgement, take no fee, and never rush a conversation. They are there for you, when you need them, as many times as you need, but desperately need cash to keep this service running. On the 13th May I’ll be running Stroud Trail Marathon. Described as “brutally painful, yet breathtakingly beautiful”, the route winds its way through the Stroud Valleys and Cotswold hills for 27.6 miles. Just like life this run has a lot of ups and downs, 4279 ft of ups to be exact, or 22 1/2 times up Park Street, Bristol... so it's going to hurt.[/p][p]At 446 miles and counting so far in 2018, my training is going really well, and I’m determined to succeed in this run whether I walk or crawl to the end. I’m not having a return of my failed “24 hour fast” fundraising attempt when my podgy Year 8 self broke at the offer of a battered Mars Bar - no, this time I’m for real.[/p][p]So please dig deep for this good cause and look forward to seeing me on Monday 14th May staggering around with locked knees, feet full of blisters, all while wearing a massive smile.[/p]
