My story

[p]This time last year Mothers day was approaching and I had brought my card and was going to post it when Mum (Big Liz) said she would come up and visit for Mothers day. I explained that I wasn't around, but she was very adamant that she was coming up. We had tea and cake (standard in the Crothall Family) and then it all turned a bit more serious. She sat me down to explain that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 Bowel CANCER. Yes CANCER, after being affected by the impacts of cancer only 2 years previously and running the London Marathon for Macmillan in memory of Marion, I couldn't believe I was hearing these words. It was tough to accept at first and I found myself in denial about it, but then it sunk in when the surgery to remove the tumour happened. Although the operation was successful, chemo was required to make sure all the cancer cells could be treated. This started the 6 month bi-weekly trips to the hospital to be filled with chemicals (turned out to be more like 9 in the end due to complications). Mum was such a positive person throughout the whole process even when the side effects kicked in and she wasn't allowed to do things or go to places because she wasn't well enough. She had such great support from family and friends, but one thing that also contributed to this positive attitude were her trips to the Pickering Cancer Drop in Centre. Here she received friendly faces and things such as Reflexology, Reki, Massages, Acupuncture as well as simple things like pedicures, counselling and advice during this difficult time. The FREE (yes its free) access to these types of services really made a difference to her well being and recovery during this time. When I signed up to do the London Marathon (again, must be crazy) I asked mum to choose a charity to run for and she chose the Pickering Centre. This Charity is run entirely by volunteers who give their time in the centre to improve the wellbeing of those suffering from or being affected by cancer.[/p][p]Help me to help the Pickering Centre to raise money to keep these services available. [/p][p]My wonderful mum didn't let her diagnosis or the treatment and recovery stop her from doing the tings she loved, and having access to the Pickering Centre helped her to keep life as normal as possible.[/p][p]Mum is now in remission and still visits the Pickering Centre for therapies to help reduce the impact of the chemo on her day to day life.[/p][p]Ill be struggling through the 26.2 miles on the 22nd April 2018 and luckily for me my Mum will be there to support me![/p][p]www.pickeringcancercentre.org.uk/about[/p][p]Thanks for your support x[/p]
