[p]As you may know, I've recently become involved with the amazing charity Home-Start, a charity supporting families over the world with local branches across the UK. After conquering the Oxford Half last year, I am taking on the Cambridge Half Marathon in March with friends through work, and would love to raise money for my local Home-Start branch, the small but mighty Home-Start Oxford. I am so impressed with the support that they give families and really believe in the work they are doing. Here is some more information about the work that they do: [/p][p]Being a parent is hard for everyone, for some it can be overwhelming. For over 30 years Home-Start Oxford has been providing a vital befriending service to some of the most vulnerable families in Oxfordshire. The families we support struggle for all sorts of reasons – they may be dealing with illness, disability, mental health issues, domestic abuse, addiction, debt, trauma or poverty. Some are refugees, many are socially isolated. Our unique service, recruits and trains volunteers who visit families at home every week, giving non-judgmental, confidential support. We also run groups so families can access support in a nurturing environment. [/p][p]Home-Start is there for parents when they need us most. We provide support to ensure children develop the vital foundations they need to flourish. [/p][p]The work we do is crucial. [/p][p]In the last year alone, 38 Home-Start volunteers have been supporting 194 Oxfordshire families, improving the lives of 315 children. But we desperately need to do more – demand for our service is currently three times capacity. We are an incredibly cost-effective charity – it costs us less than £30 per week to support a family, and that means any contribution you make will have a big impact. Thank you so much for your support![/p]
