My story

[p]With being an active person, doing the London Marathon was originally going to be a personal challenge I set myself. After some health news about my boyfriend earlier in the year there was a sudden shift in why I was training.[/p][p]Ryan has been diagnosed with ARVC, which is Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy. If you follow cricket, you may have heard of it before when James Taylor was diagnosed with it. I’m no Doctor, but basically anyone with the condition is at risk of cardiac arrest. Their heart rate can become quite erratic. It’s rare for the condition to be found before it’s too late, which is why I am raising money for C.R.Y. [/p][p]After Ryan’s Mum was diagnosed with the same condition, he went to a heart screening run by C.R.Y. From the tests done by C.R.Y. at a free screening in Ellesmere College, Ryan went for further tests which is how he’s been diagnosed. The long and short of it is C.R.Y. have essentially saved Ryan’s life. [/p][p]The trouble with ARVC is that is meant the Doctors have told Ryan the only sports he can do are golf or lawn bowls. Ryan took the titles of RAF Road Race Cycling Champion and RAF TT Cycling Champion last year, as well as coming 26th in the British Cycling Elite National TT Champs. So that’s why the drive behind my training has changed. I’m training because I CAN still train.[/p][p]#trainbecauseyoucan[/p][p]Regardless of how much money I raise, I’m hoping I can simply raise awareness of the importance of cardiac screening for young athletes ages 14-35. If there’s a C.R.Y. screening near you and you have a young athlete in the family...sign them up. Every week 12 young people die of an undiagnosed heart condition, so I hope the money I raise can help C.R.Y. can help lower that statistic. Each screening costs £85 so they need all of the help they can get.[/p]
