My story

[p]Fundraising for: climate change education, mad adventure, commemoration of a legend, the inspiration of young people, krill conservation and more… listen to me explain the project here.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Alternately, here are more details...[/p][p]As a young person and a Guide (& now Scout too!), I have had so many amazing opportunities. When this one arose it seemed like the tip of the iceberg (pardon the pun). Summer 2019 I was selected to join a team of four Kent Scouts and two Scottish Scouts embarking on a sailing expedition from Ushuaia in South America, across the Drake Passage, to the Antarctic Peninsular. Sailing on the tall ship 'The Bark Europa', our journey will commemorate 100 years since Sir Ernest Shackleton himself took two Scouts on a similar expedition to the Frozen South. [/p][p]Our patrons are: Alexandra Shackleton (great-granddaughter of the man himself); James Ketchell (adventurer who has summited Everest amongst many other feats) and Felicity Aston (first woman to ski solo across Antarctica, she also went to school in Tonbridge!).[/p][p]This expedition 'ReQuest' will go ahead in 2021, but before then we have a lot of work to do!...[/p][p]Firstly, each participant must fundraise £5000 and our team must raise £110,000. I know I will have to knuckle down hard over the next two years and if anyone can advise me of any relevant sailing/travel/charity grants or fundraising opportunities our team would be hugely grateful![/p][p]Secondly, each participant will engage in a personal project and mine involves offsetting the carbon footprint of our journey through climate change education, particularly in relation to this fragile continent. This includes setting up a challenge badge and educational bl?og: https://climatechangeguide.home.blog/the-badge/[/p][p]Thirdly, relating to both fundraising and my personal project, we aim to inspire more young people to be adventurous and educate them about Shackleton and climate change. If you are connected to a troop or unit and would like me to run an evening or are interested in undertaking my 'Stop Climate Change' or Penguin related challenge badge, please let me know! [/p][p]For now, thank you so much for your donations and support! [/p]
