My story

[p]For the last four years I have entered the ballot for a place in the Prudential Ride 100 and the year that I have spent the least time on a bike ... I have finally received a place! [/p][p]I have completed various stages of the route previously so I'm excited to complete the whole 100 miles. The Wimbledon to Esher stretch was my old commute to work. Hopefully there won't be any ice-cream vans for me to dodge, after being knocked of my bike by one in August 2017. The Kingston to Hampton Court stretch was a favoured ride when I was training for the C2C challenge in June 2013. [/p][p]I have chosen to ride for two charities: Cancer Research UK as everyone is increasingly affected by cancer; and the nominated J W Hinks charity Friends of Alfie Johnson who provide support for children with disabilities throughout the Black Country. [/p][p]As this is a ballot entry there are no minimum sponsorship requirements so anything you can give will make a real difference. If you can't give money then please come along and support on Sunday 4 August 2019 or join me on a training ride (the London Boris Bikes are nippier than you think). Riders first cross the River Thames at Chiswick and pass through Richmond Park and the heart of Kingston-upon-Thames, before crossing Hampton Court Bridge along the route made famous by both the road race and time-trial events during the London 2012 Olympic Games.[/p][p]There's plenty of stunning Surrey countryside on offer as cyclists head south past Newlands Corner, Abinger Hammer and Holmbury St Mary before tackling the biggest ascent on the route at Leith Hill. After a well-earned descent towards Dorking, it's onto the next challenge: the world-famous zig-zags of Box Hill. [/p][p]After heading north through Leatherhead, Oxshott and Esher the route takes riders back into London through Kingston and over Putney Bridge to cross the River Thames for a final time. The route then follows the Embankment all the way alongside the Thames, heading past some of London’s most famous landmarks as it makes its way across Parliament Square and up Whitehall.[/p][p]The route then swings left at Trafalgar Square, with riders streaming under Admiralty Arch before a spectacular finish on The Mall.[/p]
