My story

[p][br][/p][p]I did it! Thank you all so much for your support, the money raised will help the three charities I've chosen and hopefully help lots of people affected by domestic abuse and child victims of Crime.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Hi Everyone![/p][p]So I'm back running after a seven year break so why not kick start my fitness with a half marathon? 😁🏅🌄[/p][p]To reach my goal I have been training with the Bedford Harriers AC and with some awesome running buddies. I have some smaller races under my belt already this year. I have completed some 10k and 5k races on 31st August I even completed a 5k and a10k race in one day! Then the next is the Hertfordshire Half Marathon at Knebworth House in November! [/p][p]I have chosen three charities that are in massive need of funds to keep services going to support people that have been or are victims of domestic abuse.[/p][p]Stats from the Home Office in March 2019 stated -[/p][p]In the UK, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse and 1 in 5 sexual assault during her lifetime. Globally this rises to 1 in 3.[/p][p]The Crime Survey of England and Wales estimates 20% of women and 4% of men have experienced some type of sexual assault since the age of 16, equivalent to an estimated 3.4 million female victims and 631,000 male victims. 5 in 6 victims (83%) did not report their experiences to the police.[/p][p]Approximately 2 million adults experienced domestic abuse last year, with 695,000 of these being male.[/p][p]With this in mind I've selected the following charities -[/p][p]▪ Mankind Initiative they support males domestic violence victims and families survivors and people going through abuse this fundraising will go straight towards funding the helpline which costs £200 a day to fund. And my pal Geri's son Alex Skeel is an ambassador for this charity... Google BBC Abused by my girlfriend to watch his documentary it's harrowing but explains why I really want to raise awareness about male victims and stop men suffering in silence #abuseisabuse[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/u3PgH86OyEM?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p]▪ Safelives a national charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse, for good. They combine insight from services, survivors and statistics to support people to become safe, well and rebuild their lives. Since 2005, SafeLives has worked with organisations across the country to transform the response to domestic abuse, with over 60,000 victims at highest risk of murder or serious harm now receiving co-ordinated support annually.[/p][p]No one should live in fear. It is not acceptable, not inevitable, and together – we can make it stop.[/p][p]Every year, nearly two million people experience domestic abuse. For every person being abused, there is someone else responsible for that abuse: the perpetrator. And all too often, children are in the home and living with the impact.[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-10e-35Z6TQ?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p]▪ Embrace they help to take away the hurt, restore some normality to young lives and reassure them that other people really do care.[/p][p]They work with police officers in every force in the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man to offer practical and emotional support.[/p][p]They provide support for individuals whether they need cheering up, someone who will listen to them or professional help.[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pfBsBiakB4w?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p]🏅 All very worthy charities and I hope my running challenges over the next few months will not only raise funds but also raise awareness that domestic abuse is not right and that support is out there! 🤝[/p][p]Thank you for your support 😘[/p][p]Lucy 💕[/p][p][br][/p]
