My story

[p]Luton Foodbank needs your help![/p][p]Between restrictions on how much you can buy and stockpiling, finding items such as long-life milk, cereal, tinned fruit, rice pudding and pasta sauce is becoming more and more difficult. [/p][p]We fear the vulnerable in our town will be hit the hardest by this shortage of basic foods. [/p][p]Now, more than ever, we are relying on the generous support of Luton residents to donate food items and make monetary donations to Luton Foodbank. Please help us reach those most in need today, as well as prepare for the uncertain weeks ahead.[/p][p]Thank you for your continued support.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Fathers like Ashley need your help[/p][p][/p][p]Ashley effectivley became a single parent when his wife of eight years was hospitalised with COVID-19. He had to stop work to look after a baby and a two-year-old. After a referral to Luton Foodbank, he got food to see his family through the immediate financial crisis. He's now had a chance to organise child care and find a job which doesn't involve staying away from home. (And mum is back home safe and sound.)[/p][p][/p][p]But other people's stories haven't yet reached their happy ending...[/p][p][br][/p][p]Mothers like Sharon need your help[/p][p][/p][p]"I’m on a zero-hours contract as a cleaner, and work dried up soon after lockdown began. The loss of £160 a week is devastating. I don’t want to think too far ahead, but deep down I know I’ll struggle to give my three young children the basics. I’m concerned that because I am not technically unemployed it may be difficult claim any benefits."[/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p][p]Families like this one need your help[/p][p][/p][p]You'd have to go a long way to find someone more careful with money than Janice and Robert Lang. It's a family rule that they never borrow. Robert's home-hairdressing business was established without even a startup loan. The family simply skrimped and saved. They had no debts or outstanding bills.[/p][p]Until Lockdown.[/p][p]Abruptly, Janice's restaurant work came to an end, and Robert was unable to keep working. Their savings have been gobbled up in eight short weeks. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Children like Abraham need your help[/p][p][/p][p]Abraham is the youngest in a family of five that fled a foreign war. They are living in Home Office accommodation while they navigate the asylum-seeking process. This means Abraham's parents are not permitted to work in the UK nor access public funds. The family simply cannot survive on such a low income. They don't even know Luton Foodbank exists.[/p][p][br][/p][p]A referrer's story[/p][p][/p][p]"I have just been speaking to a mum who has had a few Foodbank parcels since lockdown began. When I first met her, she was struggling to provide her family with sufficient food. This was due to her benefits being reassessed, and some being completely stopped. [/p][p]"I was able to arrange some food parcels, which took the pressure off while she sorted things out.[/p][p]"She told me just now that she has been rehoused in London, and is delighted to be nearer her mum again. She even managed to find a job - no mean feat in these times. She wanted me to pass on her heartfelt thanks for all Luton Foodbank did, and to the people who donate to make it happen. I must admit I had a tear in my eye when she said she'd sent Luton Foodbank £10 from her first pay packet."[/p][p][br][/p][p]How to help[/p][p]Please click the Donate button at the top of the page, and give what you can afford.[/p][p]Alternatively, use the "Donate your stuff" link to sell unwanted items with the proceeds going to Luton Foodbank.[/p][p]And please share this page with everyone you know.[/p][p][br][/p][p]You make the happy endings. Thank you.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Some cases studies are anonymised amalgams of typical cases.[/p][p][br][/p]
