My story

[p]My Grandad died of dementia when I was 11, but I felt I had lost my Grandad when I was 8. Dementia had taken away the one grandparent I knew and adored and replaced him with someone I didn't understand. My Grandad was still there, just not in the same way, and as a child I couldn't cope with that and lashed out at what I didn't understand. His battle with dementia was short but devastating. When I was 11 I couldn't do anything to help my Grandad, but now I can by taking on this challenge. [/p][p]In memory of my Grandad, Great Uncle David, Rene, Toni, Charles P and all of the other incredible people who shaped my childhood, I've joined the Dementia Revolution; the official Charity Team of the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019. [/p][p]In April I will take on the challenge of running 26.2 miles (again) through the streets of London. After taking on this challenge in 2015 I've had numerous surgeries and foot problems and I'm out here doing this again for a future with a cure for dementia. [/p][p]I know that research can end dementia and taking on this challenge for the Dementia Revolution is a unique opportunity to power the most ambitious dementia research endeavour the UK has ever seen.[/p][p]Dementia is the biggest health threat facing society and there are currently no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure it. [/p][p]But a revolution is growing - on the streets and in the laboratories. Scientists are gaining on dementia, making discoveries to change lives. But they can't do it alone. We must bring dementia out of the shadows, so that people living with this devastating condition can lead more fulfilling lives. [/p][p]Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK are joining forces for a year-long campaign to power ground-breaking dementia research, overthrow old attitudes and lead the charge towards a cure. [/p][p]We all must make a stand; sponsor me today to support ground-breaking dementia research. [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Dementia Revolution charities; Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you for all your support - I promise I will make you proud.[/p]
