Team story

[p]April training update:[/p][p]We have been blown away by all the sponsorship we have received for Lighthouse Club and we would like to thank everyone who has given so generously. It is a huge motivating factor for us all to do as well as we possibly can. We are just 8 days away now. All of us have had a few niggles and some trips to see the physio (or maybe we are suffering from a touch of maranoia - marathon paranoia). We had a good planning talk this evening, with brief interruptions from little children unwilling to go to bed, going through last few arrangements for this week and for the day itself. The brothers are feeling motivated and determined and up for the challenge![/p][p]March training update:[/p][p]Well things have started getting really tough now! Merrill has been putting in the consistent miles and long runs and seems to be flying. Rob and Darren have both been hampered by injury. Rob’s calf and Darren’s ankle have continued to flair up and it is a case of carefully managing these issues so we can all get to the start line in one piece. As long as we are there in Greenwich Park ready to go in the morning of Sunday 22nd April, we are confident that we can get through the 26.2 miles, even if it means dragging ourselves around![/p][p]February training update:[/p][p]Training is going well for the marathon challenge with all of us upping our long run to a half marathon distance. There have been a few niggles though as Rob has had a calf strain that has required some attention from the physio and Darren is trying to manage his bad ankle which he broke this time last year, but still lacks full flexibility of movement. Merrill seems to be racking up the most miles as it stands. Thoughts are moving on to getting in some longer runs still, culminating in at least a 3h 30 minute effort or around 20 miles. [/p][p]Lynch brothers take on the triple crown of physical challenges![/p][p]Every year Merrill, Rob and Darren Lynch, of Lynch Plant Hire, challenge themselves to a ‘brothers Lighthouse Day’ to raise money for the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, the charity that provides financial and welfare support to those who are suffering long term injury or illness within the construction sector.[/p][p]And it seems that each year, the challenges are getting more and more physical and the training regimes more gruelling. [/p][p]Last year the three brothers conquered the Yorkshire three peaks, Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough raising over £3,000 for the Lighthoise Club charity. [/p][p]The previous year saw them complete a 12 mile ‘Tough Mudder; challenge, billed as the world’s most difficult obstacle race, they made it to the finishing post looking very muddy in just 3 hours and 25 minutes raising £5,000. [/p][p]But this year sees the trio take to the capital for the ultimate physical challenge when they take on the London marathon on 22nd April. [/p][p]Training is well underway and the competitive streak is already beginning to show, though Merrill Lynch did admit at the Lighthouse Christmas annual lunch, “that he was a ‘little bit’ behind in training compared to his brothers”. [/p][p]Robert Lynch said, “Training for a marathon requires a lot of time, dedication and mind over matter. But as brothers, we motivate each other to keep going, especially knowing that we are raising money for such a great cause. As a company and as individuals we have been long term supporters of the Lighthouse Club Charity and it is an amazing feeling to support our construction colleagues through difficult times. We enjoy the challenges and each year they seem to get more and more ambitious, but I think we’ll get the marathon completed before we think about next year!”[/p][p]As well as raising vital funds for those in need in the construction industry, Merrill, Rob and Darren dedicate their achievements to their late mother Celia Lynch who was a Director of Lynch Plant for 30 years.[/p]
