My story
[p]Hello friends, family and colleagues,[/p][p]On 24th July I am embarking on a 5-day bike ride from West Yorkshire to London to raise awareness and funding for The Jo Cox Foundation. [/p][p]My journey will start in the late Jo Cox MP's constituency of Batley and Spen, and will finish in Westminster. The journey symbolises Jo's personal journey from her childhood in Yorkshire to representing her home constituency in parliament. [/p][p]With Kim Leadbeater (Jo's sister) and the other Jo Cox Way riders we are keeping Jo’s legacy alive and raising crucial funds to enable The Jo Cox Foundation to continue its important work in Jo’s honour for years to come.[/p][p]The Batley and Spen area is in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire. My involvement in the event stems from when I was Kirklees Cycling Officer and helped the event originator organise the first Jo Cox Way ride in 2016. I rode the full 5-day event two years ago and found it tough because long distance road riding isn't really my thing. Compared to 2017, I have done no proper training - a few days mountain-biking and my cycle commute will have to see me through!! [/p][p]The event is part of Cycling UK's "Women's Festival of Cycling" this year https://www.cyclinguk.org/womensfestival [/p][p]I'm proud to be a member of Cycling UK and to work for the national cycling charity on our "Big Bike Revival" initiative https://www.cyclinguk.org/bigbikerevival[/p][p]The Impact Your Support will Make[/p][p]The Jo Cox Foundation was founded in 2016 to build a positive legacy for the late Jo Cox MP by championing Jo’s values and ‘More in Common’ message. Its vision is a kinder, more compassionate society where every individual has a sense of belonging and where we recognise that 'We have more in common than that which divides us'. The Jo Cox Foundation inspires and galvanises positive change in Jo’s honour at local, national and international levels. They do this by partnering with visionary individuals and organisations who share our commitment to the fairer, kinder world that Jo committed her life to building.[/p][p]Locally - fostering strong communities in the UK, for example through the annual 'Great Get Together' initiative https://www.greatgettogether.org/[/p][p]Nationally - building a better public life[/p][p]Internationally - standing up for vulnerable people around the world.[/p][p]Find out more: at www.jocoxfoundation.org[/p][p]I would be incredibly grateful for your support – big or small. Thank you so much and wish me luck![/p][p]I am covering my costs to take part. Any money you donate will go straight to The Jo Cox Foundation.[/p][p]Anyone can join a day ride at no charge. Contact me, or thejocoxway@gmail.com for details of the route and each day's start and finish point. For example:[/p][p]Day One, Wed 24 July, ends in Buxton, Derbyshire. Day Five, Sun 28 July Uxbridge to Bankside, London.[/p][p]If you would prefer to donate offline, you can ...[/p][p]Send a cheque [/p][p]Address to 'The Jo Cox Foundation' and send to:[/p][p]The Jo Cox Foundation, Great Dover Street, 7-14 Great Dover Street, London, SE1 4YR[/p][p]Please include a note to say you are supporting me on the ride, and provide your details and Gift aid status[/p][p]Make a bank transfer: email info@jocoxfoundation for instructions.[/p][p][br][/p]

My late sister lived in Birstall where Jo was murdered. My wife used to work at a church that Brenda's parents attended. I am a lifelong Labour Party member and a cyclist. So I feel very connected. Well done for keeping her memory alive.
