Team story

[p]Who are we?[/p][p]We are a group of middle-aged Monmouth RFC Young Rugby coaches, who, over a rugby match (or two!) decided that we wanted to raise awareness of Lyme Disease, for reasons very close to our hearts. We came up with the idea of doing a charity bike ride….even though a few of us hadn’t ridden a bike in years![/p][p][br][/p][p]What are we doing?[/p][p]We will be riding 800 miles, from Monmouth to Marseille, arriving in time to watch the Heineken Champions Cup on Saturday 23rd May. The aim is to cover 100 miles per day, and we hope to complete this in approximately 10 days![/p][p][br][/p][p]Why are we doing this?[/p][p]In 2018, one of our Monmouth Young Rugby players, Charlie contracted Lyme Disease. Unfortunately for 18 months his condition was misdiagnosed by over 12 different specialists and as he wasn’t treated at the time with antibiotics, Charlie has now developed a chronic condition which has resulted in him having to go through months of treatment to regain his health.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Lyme Disease….what is it?[/p][p]Lyme disease is a debilitating illness that is caused by bacteria, spread by the bite of an infected tick. Symptoms can include fatigue, fever, heart palpitations, joint pain, headache, and in some cases, it may cause paralysis.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Our chosen charity…[/p][p]We will be raising funds for Lyme Disease Action [/p][p][br][/p][p]We would obviously like to raise as much money as possible to help fund prevention of this debilitating disease, Lyme Disease Actiondedicate time and resource to increasing awareness so symptoms of the disease are more quickly identified and lead to the correct treatment being provided by medical professionals. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Through our fundraising, we will be visiting local schools and clubs raising awareness of Lyme Disease.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Celebrities living with Lyme Disease[/p][p]Matt Dawson[/p][p]Justin Bieber[/p][p]Shania Twain[/p][p]Avril Lavigne[/p][p]Kelly Osbourne[/p][p]Alec Baldwin[/p][p]George W.
