My story

[p]Mid Argyll Community Pool was established in 1996 and since then it has supported the community to stay fit and healthy by providing swimming and water-based exercise for all ages and abilities. After celebrating its 21st birthday, the Board of MACEL, which manages the pool, undertook an extensive public consultation process to establish what new facilities could be developed at MACPool.[/p][p] [/p][p]More than £1.6 million has now been secured towards the capital costs of this exciting project. Very soon, MACPool will embark on building work to transform the pool into an Activity Hub for Mid Argyll, with a wider focus on community health and well-being. The new MACPool Activity Hub, which will be fully accessible, will incorporate improved changing facilities, a community café, a soft play area for young children and multi-use rooms for individual therapies. The Hub will also contribute to the development of the Riverside area as a vibrant destination for local people and visitors.[/p][p] [/p][p]Significant grants have been secured from the National Lottery Community Fund, Argyll and Bute Council (via the Regional Capital Grant Fund), Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Sport Scotland, the Robertson Trust, the A’Chruach Community Fund and a number of smaller funders. The award of the contract for the work will be made in February, with the intention to commence work by the end of March. [/p][p] [/p][p]We now need to raise significant additional funds for the fit-out of the new facility and we are reaching out to members of our community for donations to enable this to happen. All contributions, however small, will be most welcome. The enclosed leaflet gives details of how you can donate and, if you are a UK taxpayer, please don’t forget to complete the Gift Aid form. If your donation is £50 or more, your donation can be immortalised on our Seascape Installation.[/p][p] [/p][p]On behalf of the Board of MACEL and the whole community of Mid Argyll – thank you![/p]
