Team story

[p]Hi,[/p][p]Thanks for visiting the fundraising page for the MK Channel Row team.[/p][p]As part of the Milton Keynes Mayor selecting MK Dons SET as her chosen charity for her year in the office, Cllr Catriona Morris came up with idea, MK Channel Row, to raise money and support both Milton Keynes Dons Sport and Education Trust and Milton Keynes Rowing Club. All money that is raised for the MK Channel Row team will be equally shared between the two causes.[/p][p]MK Dons SET are going to use its share of the funds raised to place a publicly accessible defibrillator, as part of Arrhythmia Alliance’s Hearts & Goals campaign. [/p][p]Fabrice Muamba, who was saved with the help of a defibrillator when he collapsed on the football pitch with sudden cardiac arrest last year, is fronting Hearts & Goals, which aims to place defibrillators across the UK in a bid to prevent some of the 100,000 deaths from sudden cardiac arrest in the UK every year.[/p][p]AEDs, or automated external defibrillators, are devices which anyone can use in the event of someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest to shock their heart back into a normal rhythm. The chances of survival dramatically increase from just 5% with CPR alone to 50% with CPR and defibrillation. For more information, please visit http://www.heartsandgoals.org/[/p][p]Rowers from MK Rowing Club and MK Dons SET will be faced with the challenge of rowing 22 miles across the English Channel to France which will require a 3 month grueling training programme in preparation and grit and determination to complete! One boat will be a Ladies Team, who are aim to beat the Ladies Team record crossing time of 5 hours and 24 minutes![/p][p]Milton Keynes Rowing Club, formed in 1995 and located at Caldecotte Lake, provides the opportunity for the Adults and Juniors to stay fit and healthy with courses learning how to row and by participating in competitive regattas. Due to the success of the Olympics and Paralympics, MK Rowing Club has rapidly grown in numbers. However, due to the limited resources, they have been unable to cope with this extra demand, leaving many people on the waiting list. The proceeds that they receive from the Channel Row will go towards buying new resources that will give more people the opportunity to row in Milton Keynes.[/p][p]Chosen as the Milton Keynes Mayor’s Charity for 2012-13, MK Dons Sport and Education Trust provides a variety of projects for the community of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, across four main departments including Health and Wellbeing, Education, Community & Development, and Social Inclusion and Disability. Our work in the community has been nationally recognised by the Football League after we were awarded the Community Club of the year for the South East. Our past and present projects include a children’s weight management scheme; developing basic IT skills to over 55s; after-school and community football and multi-sport courses; parenting skills workshops; cross-generational allotment projects; NEETS engagement programmes; and delivering healthy lifestyle messages to school children and their families. Naturally, our projects allow us to engage with people across several generations and various ethnic backgrounds, regardless of any disability.[/p][p]Thank you again for taking your time to visit our page. We greatly appreciate any money that you able donate to support us.[/p][p]Channel Row Team[/p][p] [/p]
