Team story

[lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]G'DAY EVERYONE!! Welcome to our Muscle Warrior’s page for our up and coming 'two marathons in two days' event on the 14th of April. Let me tell you a bit about what we are doing, and who is doing it, and why we are doing it![/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]We are aiming to run 150 miles stretched over two events, over two days. As you may have guessed by the title there are 7 of us attempting this feat, all students on the Access to HE programme at North Hertfordshire College. [/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]The first event is the Exmoor Coastal Trial Series ran by the company Endurancelife. The marathon takes place in the lesser known western area of the National Park where a trail runner's mecca lies. The course encompasses stiff climbs and long descents, open moorland, thickly wooded coombes, historical ruins, dizzying cliffs, exquisitely beautiful rivers and a stretch of coastline that is unsurpassed.  The event comes in distances of 10k, half marathon and full marathon.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]After the event is complete we travel to sunny Brighton with two of our Muscle Warriors attempting the Brighton Marathon the next day. The Brighton Marathon is a road race taking in the sights of central Brighton, including the seafront and Brighton Pier.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]So who is doing this event?[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Well my name is Jordan Farenden and I have gathered a few of my friends together to attempt this feat for a very special charity, I am attempting both full distance marathons on the two days hoping to complete 54 miles. After this course has finished I hope to go to University of Leeds to study sport science. I am a keen distance runner and pianist.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Shawn Ee is my training partner, and is attempting the half marathon distance at the Exmoor followed by the full marathon at the Brighton, completing a total of 40 miles. A fitness freak like myself, after finishing our course this year he is hoping to go on and study biomedical science.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Christian Gethings Behncke is hoping to run the 10k distance at the Exmoor. Christian has recently undergone a lumbar micro discectomy to remove fragments of disk material from his vertebra! So this is indeed a tough challenge for him after his surgery. He is hoping to go on and study paramedic science at university after our course.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Nikola Shiel is competing in the half marathon distance at the Exmoor event. Nikola is an avid underwater videographer and is hoping to study marine biology after our course finishes. She has spent a great deal of time photographing whale sharks in Thailand and indeed her Facebook states she is still there! She hopes to return to Thailand after her studies have been completed.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Michael Travis is undertaking the half marathon distance at the Exmoor event. Michael has travelled extensively in his past visiting most corners of the globe. He is hoping to study mathematics at university and is an enthusiastic golfer and football player.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Kazeem Yusef is undertaking the half marathon distance at the Exmoor event. He is the welfare and employability officer at our college and hopes to go on and study business and management at University. He enjoys basketball (despite his height) and is the go to man on our course for anything you want to get done.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Max Hawkins is doing the 10k event at the Exmoor. He likes to travel and has lived in both Canada and Australia. He is a keen rugby fan who enjoys climbing and is hoping to study mechanical engineering at university.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]We also have a few friends coming with us to both events namely Emma Warren, Hannah Moore and Andrew O’Connell. Their help, support and company is greatly appreciated and I look forward to sharing a moment with them that none of us will forget.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Our goal:[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]Let me tell you about the charity we are raising for, Muscle: The Muscle Help Foundation is a unique national family charity that works tirelessly to help fulfil the cherished dreams of children and young people suffering from the muscle wasting disease, Muscular Dystrophy.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt]My friends much like myself knew very little about this debilitating condition before Michael McGrath, Co-founder, CEO and Chief Muscle Warrior very kindly agreed to visit us and give us an insight into the charity, its goals and aims and his experiences living with the condition which he has himself. It was both an eye opener, and an honour to be able to do what we can to help the dreams come true of people suffering from the disease. I have known Michael for some time through my work, and have met few men as honest and as passionate about their life and their will to help others. I hope you will visit the website which has a link on the side of this page to find out more about this fantastic charity.[/p][lt]p style="text-align: justify;"[gt] Thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
