My story

[vmgvideo class="ql-video" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2FxPd6yhjL8?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][p]Hello All,[/p][p]I hope you are keeping well in this challenging time.[/p][p]Just thought I would update, as we all know the Recovery Games has sadly had to be cancelled this year. Understandable of course, but a disappointment to all involved I am sure.[/p][p]I am still raising funds, so all will go towards 2021, let's make it the best one yet.[/p][p]I have to admit that during the past couple of months I haven't been following any kind of plan and do not know how this is reflected in the scales because I haven't checked. The lockdown has been hard due to my mental health issues, plus physiotherapy and other clinical and medical appointments cancelled. [/p][p]We're all going through this together though, and we cannot give up.[/p][p]So back on it I go, and with longer to achieve my target I am increasing it again to 5 stones, yep 5 stones, by the 18th July 2021.[/p][p]Every penny goes towards the Games, so please, £1, £5, whatever you can, please donate to help me push forward and through this. [/p][p]"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." --Henry Ford[/p][p]"Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much." -- Helen Keller[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Hi Everyone,[/p][p]I have had a challenging couple of months, but am not giving up and am in fact raising the bar. I have now reset my weight loss challenge to 3 stones, with a new target date of 18th July (my 52nd birthday!). [/p][p]Please encourage me by sponsoring, even if it is only £1, it would be very much appreciated.[/p][p]With thanks,[/p][p]Mandy[/p][p][img][/img]My Story[/p][p]o The challenge I'm completing is a sponsored slim to raise funds for The Recovery Games. My aim is to be able to wear the Recovery Games t-shirt when I volunteer again next year. I currently have the largest size, but it does not fit properly yet. I would like to lose 2 stones in order to do this.[/p][p]o I've given myself a time frame of 6 months – so I started on 1st September and expect to reach my goal by 1st March 2020.[/p][p]o This is a personal challenge for me because I have physical and mental health issues. I have lived with depression and anxiety for 20 years now, had major life changing surgery in 2010, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2012, and have mobility issues with my shoulders wrists and hands. I started to gain weight around the time I was diagnosed with anxiety, and I have tried - and failed - to lose weight several times over last 10 years. Having a good cause that I believe in to do this for has given me the strength and focus to achieve my aim.[/p][p]o I applied to be a volunteer for The Games this year after they put the call out; I have never volunteered for an event before and it just seemed the right time and event for me. When I went along to the Training/Team Building for the Volunteer role I was blown away by the story of The Games. Neil gave the background of The Games, how it came about, and what the purpose is. The Games celebrate the gains made by those who are in recovery from drug and/or alcohol use. We watched videos and testimonials, and it was plain to see how the event helps the recovery community, and how it has grown and evolved over the years. I met mentors and service users from Aspire and New Beginnings, and found the whole experience very uplifting and humbling. [/p][p]o On the day of The Games I really enjoyed working together with the other volunteers, despite the rain the enthusiasm of the teams was fantastic! Dancing in colours is something I have always wanted to do and was the highlight of my day – apart from raising a good amount on the t-shirt stall. The atmosphere was simply great. I have never experienced anything like it before![/p][p]o The Games is a charity event, and is solely reliant on fundraising, grants and sponsorship to ensure it's continued success. It has been running for 6 years and 2020 looks to be bigger and better again. [/p][p]Please support me with my slim challenge, no matter how big or small the donation, all contributions will make a lasting difference to those affected by substance misuse.[/p][p]Thank You [/p]
