My story

Post run update:

I managed to complete the course in 1 hour, 59 mins and 21 seconds according to my official timing chip – so just scraping in at under 2 hours which I am very happy about. My position was 4370 in a field of around 9,000 runners – so just about into the top 50% - not too shabby for someone who couldn’t run at all earlier this year.

Thanks again to everyone for sponsoring me.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Having only just started running earlier this year, I will be running the Bristol Half Marathon on 11 Sep 2011! This is quite a big deal for me - after 30+ years of total couch potato behaviour, to run 13 miles is quite a challenge.

I will be running for Oxfam - I'm sure everyone is aware of the work they do - to find out more, click on the link to the left.

Please donate if you can - and gift aid it!

For added excitement - I will be having a sweepstake on my finishing time - prize to be decided, but I will be funding it myself so its not going to be big value - just a bit of fun. Entry is £2 per time - you can enter as many times as you like. Its going to be a sweepstake so times pulled out of hat - no skill or prior knowledge of my current pace required! The winner will be the person who picks the time closest (under or over) to my actual finishing time (each time is in 15 second blocks). I appreciate that in the event, this may not be quite as simple as I hope, and I’ve not quite figured out the precise details yet so if there is any confusion, the judge’s (ie me) decision is final etc etc. Bear in mind that the prize is probably not going to be worth arguing about anyway – it’s just a bit of fun!

If you'd like to take part please get in touch - if you are likely to see me you can draw times in person - otherwise I can pick a time on your behalf - pay your entry via the virginmoneygiving page.

Wish me luck!
