My story

[lt]p class="BodyA"[gt]One year on.........[/p][lt]p class="BodyA"[gt] It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since I did the New York marathon. After months of blood, sweat and tears, that moment when I crossed the finish line was the most amazing feeling. Not quite as amazing as the money we raised for two very special charities though.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] I only started running in 2014. Within a few months I’d completed my first 10k, and then a half marathon soon after that. Then it was time for a new challenge.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] New York was my chance to prove that I could achieve something I’d never thought I could achieve. Not just by running 26 miles alongside almost 52,000 other people. But by making a real difference to some incredibly worthy causes along the way.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] Thanks to people like you, we raised a massive £11,000, which was split between two charities that are very close to my heart: Parkinson’s UK, for my dear dad who suffers with that horrible disease, and For-ethiopia.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] For-ethiopia is a small charity. My next door neighbour Sue, a lovely lady who is like family to me, manages the medical projects. This year her focus is on the maternity services and care of the newborn – the slogan is Women and Children First. The charity also  runs a hostel that supports girls and young women through their secondary education. It also provides training in a  sewing workshop which  gives them opportunities to earn a living that they wouldn’t otherwise have.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] The next adventure[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] The money we raised will make a huge difference to their lives. And now I’ve got the opportunity to see that difference with my own eyes. This November, I’ll be flying out to Ethiopia to visit the young women we’re supporting, and I can’t wait to tell everyone back home how their money is being spent.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] Being a bit of a glutton for punishment though, I thought I might as well use the opportunity to test my running skills again, so I’ve signed up for the Great Ethiopian Run. This 10k race may not be the length of a marathon, but at an altitude of 2000m and with temperatures well beyond those we’re used to in the UK, it’s likely to be my toughest challenge yet.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] So once again, I’m asking for your help. I’m taking two enormous suitcases to Ethiopia with me, which I’d love to fill with things like baby clothes, towels, soap and sewing kits. These vital supplies attract pregnant women from the surrounding rural areas to the city clinics where they can then access the medical support they might not otherwise get.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] And, of course, if I can take more cash to support the work of For-ethiopia, that would be the cherry on top.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] If you are able to support us just one more time, then Sue and I and the people of Addis Ababa would be incredibly grateful.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] Sending you many thanks in advance.[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt] MandyXXX[/p][lt]p class="Body"[gt]ps Sue took this picture on her last visit. The baby is a few hours old, and Granny was in the delivery suite making coffee for the mother.[/p]
