My story

[p]Thanks for taking the time to visit my Virgin Money Giving page. [/p][p]Back in 2011 I started running a couple of times a week, primarily to lose some weight. Since then, I've never really stopped since I enjoy it so much. For me, it's not about the pace, it's all about the distance. To date, the furthest I have run is 18.2 miles, and since 2011, in total, I've covered over 11,000 miles (I use RunKeeper to track all my running activities). But I've always had an ambition to complete a marathon. Inspired by some colleagues who already have that achievement under their belt, plus me turning 60 last year, I decided to apply for the London Marathon. I was astonished to find I got a first time entry. So, the challenge is on. I'm obviously very nervous, but also very excited about being part of what promises to be a (hopefully) successful day. [/p][p]I've had immediate family and many friends who have been through the challenges of various forms of cancer, some have survived, some not, but in all cases Macmillan were there to provide support. If my efforts can in some small way raise some cash for them, I'm all for it.[/p][p]I'll try and post some training pics as the next few weeks progress. Currently I'm nursing a hip injury so it's a lot of bike and rowing machine work instead with some gentle slow paced running thrown in now and again. I hope to be back to full training within a couple of weeks.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Macmillan. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Best regards, Mark.[/p][p]Update August 2020 - Well I guess most of you will be aware that circumstances around the Marathon have changed. In short, I'll be running the Virtual London Marathon on Oct 4th 2020 and I intend to run the event proper in October 2021. I've been keeping a blog about all of this, it's available at https://g4eid-km8h.net Just look under the category running.[/p]
