My story

[p]Closure for the NC500 in one day event. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Well, the giant cheque arrived and today, two weeks after the successfully completed ride, I met up with the NERVS Chairman Dale Walker to hand over £1,022.40 for the donations raised for completing the 516 miles of the NC500 in only 12 hours 45 minutes. [/p][p][br][/p][p]I'm sure the money will be very well spent keeping the vehicles roadworthy and safe for us volunteers to use.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I would like to thank PHOEBE KINGDON of MAXXIS tyres for providing me with a pair of their ST tyres which performed better than the Road Pilot 3's they replaced. [/p][p][br][/p][p]If you consider the 2 hour ride to Inverness before the event, the 516 miles and then the ride home, my mate Goody aka Brett Bonas and I ride 698 in under 17 hours and both bikes fitted with identical tyres didn't miss a beat, not once, wet or dry.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I've spent hundreds of pounds over the years on decent tyres.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The ST's come in around £180 for the pair, fitted! Next time you need boots for your bike, save yourself a hundred quid and buy a pair.[/p][p][br][/p][p]A big thanks to my M.D. at Leiths (Scotland) Ltd GRANT MILNE who agreed to pay my hotel for the night before the event and cover the cost of my fuel. It's gestures like this that help the planning of events like this to happen. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Huge thanks to Goody, who 'just fancied coming along for the ride'......We have been mates for 22 years, shared many, many miles over the years and one or two laughs on the NC500. I planned to do it alone until he decided to come along for the ride.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Great to share a ride like this with someone I trust on a bike and someone I can go and play on the bikes with most weekends. [/p][p][br][/p][p]My sincere thanks to you, my friends and family who year on year, whether I'm being sponsored for endurance motorcycling, walking or cycling, still support me with enthusiasm, **** taking or putting a few quid in the pot.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Without you it's a bloke just doing stuff, with you I'm able to raise thousands for local and national charities. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Finally, to my long suffering Team Guv at home, Liz Robinson Lexi Robinson and Sophie Robinson being behind me, knowing that whatever short notice stuff I come up with, you still support me, even close to the event when my impatience is as clear as day as all I need is to get cracking.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Anyway, that's that.[/p][p][br][/p][p]As they say in Hollywood, "That's a wrap".[/p][p][br][/p][p]As I say "What's next".........[/p][p][br][/p][p]Laters.[/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE. [/p][p][br][/p][p]EVENT SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED IN 12H 45M.[/p][p][br][/p][p]VERY TIRED BUT CHUFFED WITH THE END RESULT. [/p][p][br][/p][p]I'm a volunteer motorcyclist for NERVS (the Aberdeen based charity which provides free transportation for the Health Service) and having walked ONE MILLION STEPS FOR NHS CHARITIES TOGETHER IN 23 DAYS in May 2020 (463 miles) and cycled the 874 miles distance between Lands End and John O'Groats over the Christmas holidays last year (on a gym bike at home) to raise funds for Care of Police Survivors, it was time for another event, and this time for a charity close to home.[/p][p]The charity runs solely on donations and operated by volunteers. [/p][p]With our normal income streams of outside events temporarily on hold, and with restrictions in my favour, I thought now is the time to crack on and do something of note.[/p][p]This event is the first since 1992 that I'm having company, I'm really happy to share the miles and memories with an old mate and fellow former Grampian Police officer Brett Bonas (aka Goody, if you've seen the Thin Blue Line you'll know why).[/p][p]Goody isn't seeking sponsorship and has asked to appear in name only as he's (in his own words) 'coming along for the ride and take photos'.[/p][p]Were leaving our digs in Inverness before first light on Saturday 19th June and be at Inverness Castle (official start and finish line) early doors for a picture or two. We'll head west towards Applecross and negotiate the first 200 or so miles of single track road before the tourists and caravans have woken up. As there is no record for this event for obvious safety reasons, we're going to be making safe progress and fuel up when we need and crack on with Lucozade and Mars bars when required. [/p][p]There will be the inevitable photo opportunities to break up the ride but as we both live up in Aberdeenshire we can nip back and do the tourist bit with our respective families in the car another time. [/p][p]All being well, we should be crossing the finish line around 17-18 hours later having covered the 516 miles and then the last 80 miles or so back to our homes and a well deserved beer with our families. [/p][p]My employer, Leiths (Scotland) Ltd have very kindly covered the cost of my fuel and hotel.[/p][p]Every penny helps so please donate what you can for a very deserving charity. Thanks. [/p]
