My story

[p]On 21st February 2006 I travelled to Madrid as an optimistic Arsenal fan going to witness, what turned out to be, one of our greatest European victories en route to the Champions League final (the less said about that the better). [/p][p]A slip on the greasy cobbled streets of the Spanish capital meant spending a lonely night in a foreign hospital, rather than the Bernabaeu. X-rays and scans revealed not only a fracture of the left distal femur, but a worrying message from Spanish doctor Felix, instructing us get home and see a specialist immediately. [/p][p]Back in England specialists told us the bad news, that they had found a cancerous tumour in my knee - a rare occurance. [/p][p]Being placed on a specialist Teenage Cancer Trust ward meant that the treatment of my Non-Hodgkins Lymphona was as comfortable as it could be. 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 5 months later, I was given the all-clear. [/p][p]Fast forward 9 years, and here I am. Against all the odds, ready to take on the challenge of a lifetime (against my mothers wishes)! I have always said if I am ever to run the London Marathon, I'd want to do it for the Teenage Cancer Trust, for all the help and support they offered me and my family during our time in need. [/p][p]So when offered a place I simply couldn't say no. [/p][p]Thank you for listening to a brief outline of my story! All donations are hugely appreciated by me, my family and the charity.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Mark Stern[/p][p]9 years clear of Cancer. [/p]
