My story

[p]Update 12th May, I week to go.[/p][p]Earlier this week I joins the Honiton running club. Not only hoping for some top tips for Hackney Half, big also to provide some motivation to carry on running after this event. Motivation was provided swiftly, and I got a last minute entry to the Ottery St Marg 10k, which I ran today.[/p][p]Im not sure if im any better prepared for next week (I’m surf I’m not!), but it was an exhilarating event and I met some great people.[/p][p]There’s not much between now and the big day, so some rest and recovery is about all I can do.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I am not a sportsman, [/p][p]I live in East Devon, and have been running for about 2 years.[/p][p]Aside of the obvious investment in longevity! I run because I enjoy it, and because it is in fact wonderfully mentally relaxing. I know of nothing else that forces you to switch of from the daily pressures. [/p][p]During a rash conversation at Christmas I put my hand up to join my brother in law James in the Hackney Half Marathon in May. Other than a couple of muddy Parkruns around the Killerton Estate in Devon I haven’t run in a group at all yet.[/p][p]Most of my training is around the lanes of East Devon. Hills are an inevitable feature, I’m hoping that on the relatively flat ground of East London they’ll stand me in good stead. [/p][p]I haven’t a clue what sort of time I’ll achieve, just staying the course is the first objective. If I complete in under 2 hours that will be something.[/p][p]I’ve chosen Shelter because It is a massively worthwhile organisation. I’m sure we all have an idea of what Shelter do, I found this quote on their website which seems to capture what this vital charity is about.[/p][p]Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help.[/p][p]We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.[/p][p]Thank your sponsorship. It means a lot to me.[/p][p]Best wishes[/p][p]Martin[/p]
