Team story

[p]UPDATE: WE DID IT![/p][p][/p][p][span=font-weight: bold;]The Challenge [/span][/p][p]In a bid to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK we will be riding three events this summer, starting with the Norwich 50 in June. This will be a chance to test our skills close to home around the picturesque sights of Norfolk. We then take on the Dunwich Dynamo - a night time ride from Hackney to Dunwich in Suffolk totalling a distance of some 120+ miles. The + is dependant on how many times we get lost in the dark! After enduring the first two events our grandstand finale will be the Prudential Surrey 100. This is a 100-hundred mile timed event and we must complete it in a maximum time of eight and a half hours. The route starts at the Olympic Park in London before heading into the Surrey countryside. The event will finish is style as we cycle home down The Mall in central London and into a world of aches and pains.[/p][p]There is a long road ahead and we would be extremely grateful for any donations to help us reach our £1000 goal.[/p][p][/p][hr/][lt]br /[gt][p][/p][p]Why Prostate Cancer UK?[/p][p]From Martin[/p][p]"As those of you close to me will know I am riding for Prostate Cancer UK in support of my brother Donnie, who is currently receiving treatment for this disease.[/p][p]Donnie has been an inspiration in the way he has dealt with his illness. There is never a good time to receive news that you have cancer but Donnie got his news just days after our Dad's funeral. That was back in November '13 and Donnie had to wait until February for his treatment to start. Little did we know then that his first session would be only two days after our Mother's funeral. It's been a very tough time for all of us these last few months. [/p][p]It was because of this that I wanted to do something positive and raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. They do tremendous work to raise the awareness of prostate cancer and their research and funding is crucial in supporting those who, like my brother Donnie, are affected by it."[/p][p]SOME GREAT NEWS JUST IN!!![/p][p]DONNIE HAS HAD HIS 6 WEEK CHEEK-UP AND THE TREATMENT HAS BEEN A SUCCESS. HE HAS JUST BEEN GIVEN THE ALL CLEAR BY THE DOCTORS TODAY (14-5-14).  [/p][p]Tom and I are doing this challenge so that other men like my brother, will get equally good news at the end of their treatments. Again, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all for your very kind and generous donations and support.[/p][p][/p][hr/]So Far So Good[p][/p][p]Well, that's one down and two left to go. [/p][p]The Norwich 50 was very enjoyable. The weather was perfect and the support was amazing. [/p][p]Now we have a mere 130 mile ride on the 11th-12th July through the beautiful Essex and Suffolk countryside (none of which we'll get to see in the dark!) and Tom and I are very much looking forward to seeing many of our friends and family at the finish line early on Sunday morning. Some of the more fool hardy may even go for an early morning swim, who can say what a long night of no sleep might make you do.[/p][p][/p][hr/][p][/p][p][span=font-weight: bold;]Thank You[/span][/p][p]On behalf of both of us, our family and Prostate Cancer UK, we wish to offer you a heartfelt "thank you" for your support and any donations you are able to give. [/p][p][/p][hr/][lt]br /[gt][p][/p][p]Virgin Money Giving[/p][p]Thank you for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p]
