[p]Hello, thanks for visiting my fundraising page.[/p][p]I am taking part in the Duchenne Dash and riding from London to Paris in just 24 hours. I am doing this as part of The Harry Bikers team, with the aim to raise vital funds to support Harry Halpin, the five year old son of my good friend Gareth. Harry has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We will be joining other riders in an effort to raise over £1million for the charity Duchenne UK.[/p][p]Here are some words from Harry's dad, Gareth, to explain more about Harry and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).[/p][p]"It's over 3 years ago since we found out Harry was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. DMD is a cruel muscle wasting disease. Harry who is now 5 years old is slowly losing the ability to walk, climb and run. Eventually by the time he is 10 years old he will end up in a wheel chair. The disease continues to affect muscle strength and he will continue to lose his upper body function. Life expentancy is early 20's.[/p][p]We are racing against time for a cure. Vital funds are needed if we are to make a meaningful breakthrough.[/p][p]The charity Duchenne UK embarked on a journey 5 years ago to end Duchenne in 10 years. This years Dash is the halfway point to this mission and a landmark fundraising effort goes with it.[/p][p]This ride is going to hurt, however the pain we suffer won't compare to the pain that Duchenne has in store for Harry and other sufferers.[/p][p]Please help Harry and support me and my team raise as much money as we can and end Duchenne in 10! Let's be a part of making Harry have a brighter future and fulfil all of his hopes and dreams."[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]For more information please visit: duchenneuk.org[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for your donations.[/p][p]Matt.[/p]
