My story

[p]Hello everyone, in October I will be trekking the Great Wall of China in order to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation. Anyone who knows me well will know that there are not many things I am more passionate about in life than mental health. During my final year of university I went through a terrible time with my own mental health. In truth this had been going on for a long time before then but much like too many people I refused to take notice of the warning signs and didn't talk about it until it took an uncontrollable hold on my life. Thankfully I am blessed with a great support network in a great mum, sister and very loyal friends which helped me get to a now very happy point in life where I work for a cause I care deeply about. [/p][p]Not everyone however is that lucky. Suicide is now the biggest killer of men under the age of 45, with 17 suicides taking place on average every day in the UK. A recent study conducted by the Mental Health Foundation showed that on average 2 out of 3 people will go through a period of poor mental health throughout their lifetime. The World Health Organisation state that depression is now the leading cause of disability in the world.[/p][p]The Mental Health Foundation is the charity for everyone's mental health. Focusing on everyone across the life span from children and young people right up to people in later life. With prevention at the heart of what we do, we are dedicated to finding and addressing the sources of mental health problems, preventing them before people reach crisis point.[/p][p]If you could support me on this trek and help me raise vital funds that will help prevent future mental health problems then I would be very grateful, however large or small your donation. I'd also like to say that the costs of this trip have already been covered therefore every donation will go directly to the Mental Health Foundation.[/p][p]Lastly I'd like to dedicate this challenge to one of my best mates Phil 'The King' Brandariz who has been recovering in hospital since January and should be out soon![/p][p]Cheers [/p][p] [/p]
