[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my sponsorship page. [/p][p]In August (2019) I successfully became the first person to swim the length of all 14 of the large lowland lakes in the Lake District in one continuous go, walking between them, camping overnight and going over the highest point in England (Scafell Pike) and Helvellyn too. It was 43 miles of swimming and over 100 miles of hiking and I did it to raise some cash for MacMillan Cancer Support after they helped my sister Lucy with her cancer battle last year.[/p][p]More info below. We will also be updating as we go on Facebook page, just search for page "Swimming the Lakes for MacMillan" and you will find it, it's a public page so don't worry, you don't have to be friends with me on Facebook! - facebook.com/swimmingthelakes[/p][p]Follow it via Instagram via @peakandpond[/p][p]More info on the challenge:[/p][p]So there are 14 "lakes" in the Lake District that are over 600m in length, aren't upland tarns and that you are allowed to swim in (ie not reservoirs or private fisheries), so I thought I would try and swim them all in one go and walk between them - turns out noone has tried before! Probably because it's about 70km/45miles of cold water swimming and 160km/100miles of walking... I am starting on Thursday 22nd August and I will finish with the Coniston Chill and Windermere One Way races on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September - I also need to walk about 20km to get from one to the other! While I am walking between the lakes I thought it would be a shame not to go over a couple of the highest peaks as well, Helvellyn and Scafell Pike! I will be staying in campsites and our campervan Ruby along the way with friends and family providing swimming and walking support.[/p][p]More info on Macmillan:[/p][p]MacMillan Cancer Support are here to help you find your best way through from the moment of diagnosis, so you're able to live life as fully as you can. My little sister was diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer last year, when I told her I wanted to raise some money for a cancer charity she said MacMillan were a really great help and she'd love it if I chose them - so here we are![/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Macmillan. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
Well done Matt! That was no mean feat! We’ve just watched you tonight and hope to meet you both one day when this madness is all over and you can visit Lucy & Steve & Crew.. we feel very lucky to count them as our friends. You both are inspiring x

A fantastic effort Bryony and Matt. I really enjoyed the video - thanks for inviting me to watch it. I'm looking forward to seeing it go public so I can share it with friends and brag that "I know these guys!"
