Team story

[p]In April 2019 we will be attempting to run the Virgin London Marathon. It is a challenge we have always wanted to tackle together and we are determined to run 26.2 miles to raise money for two incredible charities.[/p][p]Matt: " I will be running the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.[/p][p]Not many people know, but my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and fortunately with the intervention of our amazing NHS, she has fought it and has been given the all clear.[/p][p]Nicknamed “Grandad Roberts” and as an extremely unfit and mentally weak man, the thought of running 26.2 miles is terrifying; albeit nothing in comparison to what these incredible men and women fighting this horrible disease go through. [/p][p]Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with one person getting diagnosed every 10 minutes. Thanks to research charities such as Breast Cancer Now, more women are surviving than ever before. In fact, Breast Cancer Now has an ambition that by 2050 everybody who develops the disease will live.[/p][p]We’ll be looking to raise some money through auctioning some football memorabilia so if you’ve got any requests send us a message!"[/p][p]Becca: "As well as running this race to support breast cancer now we will also be raising money for Restoration of Appearance & Function Trust (RAFT).[/p][p]With my mum and Matt both working tireless hard for the NHS they have had to come face-to-face with people who have suffered physical trauma.[/p][p]RAFT is an incredible charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of children and adults that have suffered physical trauma. The charity is a world leader in developing treatments that help the body restore tissue (such as skin, bone and breast tissue) that has been affected by physical trauma or a birth defect. [/p][p]Our family have supported this charity in the past and we hope to continue to help support their amazing work: https://raft.ac.uk/[/p][p]I am not a natural born runner; in fact I would go as far to say I HATE running. No part of me is looking forward to dragging myself 26.2 miles around London but I am determined to raise money for some incredible charities and hopefully beat Matt’s time :) "[/p][p]We really don’t like asking for your hard earned money, but we hope you can spare something to help fundraise for these wonderful charities.[/p][p]Thanks for your support[/p]
