My story

[lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]For the last 2 years I've joined the Duchenne ride to Paris to raise money for The Duchenne Children's Trust. [span=font-size: 12.8000001907349px;]This year the event is still happening, but ... [/span][/p] [lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]... To raise the stakes I'm also making it harder for myself - riding 40% further (its 420km via Calais not Dieppe) in the same time (24hrs), solo, with no peloton to hide in or support cars to carry food and water.[/p] [lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]So a proper bike ride. [/p][lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]I reckon I can have a 3 hour sleep in Calais and 4 x 15 min rests, otherwise its 160-170bpm all the way. [/p][lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt][span=font-size: 12.8000001907349px;]I have no fund raising quota in mind - Google will match up to £6k - so I just want to help as much as I can, making the most of Google's support too![/span][/p] [lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]Thanks for getting this far.[/p] [lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]Matt[/p][lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt]About the charity:[/p][lt]p style="margin: 0.833em 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 12.960000038147px; line-height: 15.5519990921021px;"[gt][span=color: #993366;]The Duchenne Children’s Trust ([url=http://www.dc-trust.org/]www.dc-trust.org[/url]) was set up two years ago by Emily and Nick Crossley, after their son was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is the most common fatal genetic disorder to affect boys. [b][lt]span style="font-style: italic;"[gt]At the moment DMD is 100% fatal with no cure; most children die in their early 20s from heart or respiratory failure and every child ends up in a wheelchair by the age of 12-14. [/span][/b]They cannot produce dystrophin, a protein necessary for muscle survival and, as a result, every skeletal muscle in the body deteriorates.[lt]/span[gt][/p] [lt]p style="margin: 0.833em 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 12.960000038147px; line-height: 15.5519990921021px;"[gt][span=color: #993366;][lt]span style="font-style: italic;"[gt]HOWEVER[/span] scientists believe they are on the edge of finding a substantial treatment and possible cure for the disease. [lt]/span[gt][/p] [lt]p style="margin: 0.833em 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 12.960000038147px; line-height: 15.5519990921021px;"[gt][span=color: #993366;]The Duchenne Children’s Trust is currently funding several research projects   – all of which show real promise. And they've met with politicians, scientists, regulators, and pharmaceutical companies – to push the case for quicker access to drugs.[/span][/p] [lt]p style="margin: 0.833em 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 12.960000038147px; line-height: 15.5519990921021px;"[gt][span=color: #993366;]The Trust’s video will tell you more:[url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMVxYQzzNbY]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMVxYQzzNbY[/url][/span][/p][lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt][/p][lt]p style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8000001907349px;" dir="ltr"[gt][/p]
