My story

[p]I always try to celebrate 'big' birthdays and this year I turned 60. I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do but always kept coming back to Everest and the Original Everest Marathon. In short I go on a 15 day trek from Namche Bazaar to the original Everest Base Camp at Gorak Shep to acclimatise. All being well, I then run a full marathon back to Namche Bazaar and the actual marathon is the highest marathon in the world, starting at 5140 metres or just over 17,000 feet. Apart from the beauty of the area, meeting local Sherpa people and being near Everest, one of my main thrills is the thought that I am walking and running in the footsteps of the original pioneer explorers and climbers and visiting all the places that are named in the expedition books e.g. Tengboche Monastery. [/p][p]The Original Everest Marathon exists to support Community Action Nepal (CAN) which was set up by Doug Scott who climbed Everest in 1975. I had his iconic poster on my bedroom wall. CAN supports the people of Nepal and all of the donations that I raise will go to CAN to help the people of Nepal. I have already bought and paid for the trip, flights and everything else and the charity donations are totally separate.[/p][p]Please consider a donation and help me fund raise for CAN via the Original Everest Marathon and my trip of a lifetime. The people of Nepal do need our help and for years adventurous people have been going to Nepal trekking and climbing and to me it is only right that we give something back. Life always was hard here but was made worse by the earthquakes of 2015 from which the country and people are still recovering, so every penny raised by CAN will be used to help. [/p][p]Thank you [/p][p][br][/p][p] 📷 with grateful thanks to Colin Harding [/p]
