My story

[p]On the 1st of May I will be running the Milton Keynes marathon.[/p][p]I’ll be running for a charity that’s quite close to my heart in that my nephew was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma back in 2010. This is an aggressive form of bone & soft tissue cancer that affects children, teenagers and young adults.  About 80 are diagnosed each year, but because of the small number diagnosed the large trials take over decade to complete.[/p][p]Kieran's treatment meant he had his leg amputated (2011 aged 12), had a stem cell transplant and part of his lung removed (2013 aged 14) and has also had intensive chemotherapy, through all of this he trained first as a gymnast (achieving British Wheelchair Acro Champion with 8 tumours in his lungs) and then as a T42 sprinter with the goal of getting into the Paralympics in Tokyo.[/p][p]Unfortunately the cancer returned last year and is now untreatable. Kieran has been inspirational in the way he has dealt with this terrible disease and it's a testament to him that he is now working hard to fund-raise for a researcher to prevent any more children going through what he now has and to raise awareness of childhood cancer.[/p][p]I’m therefore raising funds in the hope that others can be helped through research and in raising awareness of the disease.[/p][p]If you’d like to know more about the charity’s goals there is a link below.[/p][p] [/p][p]The charity page and also Kieran's are below.[/p][p]http://www.cclg.org.uk/[/p][p]http://www.cclg.org.uk/KieranMaxwellLegacy[/p]
