My story

[p]NDF 25k Fundraiser! [/p][p]On 21st September I will be doing a sponsored 25km walk through London to raise money for the Norrie Disease Foundation. The money raised will fund gene therapy research to treat the devastating, progressive hearing loss that affects boys like my friend Wendy's son Josh, who are born blind with Norrie Disease.[/p][p]Norrie disease is an incurable, rare genetic condition affecting mainly boys, causing blindness or severe visual impairment from birth. The majority of boys born blind like Josh, go on to develop progressive hearing loss in late childhood. [/p][p]Sound is incredibly important to those with a visual impairment, so developing an additional sensory loss in late childhood/early adulthood is particularly hard and can be very isolating. This is a race against time for Josh and others in the Norrie community.[/p][p]The Norrie Disease Foundation (NDF) has to raise £62,500 by February next year to fund the hearing loss research. For such a small and fledgling charity it is a very daunting commitment, but the research will give Josh and other boys like him in the Norrie community, hope for the future. If the NDF raises this funding, Sparks and GOSH Children’s Charity will fund the additional £187,500 required.[/p][p]Anything you can spare to help would make an enormous, life changing difference to Josh and the Norrie community and your support would be hugely appreciated.[/p][p]Thank you [/p][p]Mel [/p][p][br][/p]
