My story

[p]Update 30.6.2021: I DID IT!![/p][p]I arrived in Southport on the evening of the 24th June and set off on my bike at 8am the next morning. It was possibly the hardest thing I've ever done. 3 days of rain, mud, brambles and stinging nettles. It'll be days before I can sit comfortably.[/p][p]My dear friends John & Mandy were there for me throughout the whole thing. Driving me to Southport; feeding me; cracking the whip; riding alongside me when I was at my lowest.[/p][p]Caz White, who completed the challenge in 2019 joined me for two 15 mile sections.[/p][p]I posted a ton of photos on Instagram and on Polarsteps which also has my GPS progress too! (links below)[/p][p]I might never have made it through without all the support I've had from friends, family & loved ones. xx[/p][p]I still have NINE SD cards of video footage from the ride to edit together for YouTube. Hopefully, this latest adventure will inspire others to donate and perhaps take up their own challenge. I'm already looking for my next.[/p][p]The donation page will stay open for another 3 months or until the donations stop coming in.[/p][p]Read on for my reasons why I did this and the other updates as I planned around the pandemic.[/p][p]lots of love,[/p][p]Mevi[/p][p]https://www.catzero.org[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/mevi[/p][p]https://www.instagram.com/mevi.co.uk/[/p][p]https://www.polarsteps.com/mevi[/p][p]* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * [/p][p]Update: June 2021[/p][p]Novice Cyclist training for the 215+ mile Challenge of The Trans Pennine Trail[/p][p]I have re-started the grueling cycle training that was needed for me to be ready to complete the CatZero Coast To Coast Cycle Challenge. The pandemic, the resulting lockdown and the safety of my small support team meant that I have postponed the challenge until JUNE 2021 - tentatively arranged for June 25th over 3 days. Did I mention that I fully intend to do this SOLO? I have personally paid the additional costs, like maintaining the bike, insurance, hotels & train fare.[/p][p]The £1,160 inc GiftAid (at time of writing mid-June 21) donated so far has already been put to fantastic use supporting families through this pandemic - for some, the most challenging times of their lives.[/p][p]100% of the funds raised will go to supporting some of the Humberside area's most disadvantaged families. The way that funding works these days is that charities need to "match fund", CatZero have to find additional funding and donations to match that of the main funder.[/p][p]What this will mean for you, is that for every pound you donate, the tax man will chip in the Gift Aid and then that amount will be effectively be DOUBLED when used to match fund against funding from CLLD or The Big Lottery.[/p][p]* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *[/p][p]OK, So why did I decide to do this crazy thing?[/p][p]I was inspired by all of those who completed the same challenge in 2019, especially Caz White and Greg Virgoe. I saw two people who seemed otherwise "normal" turn into superheroes and power through 215+ miles over 3 days.[/p][p]I chatted with Greg on his return and asked him straight "could I do this?". He said yes, but I would have to train.... Oh dear.[/p][p]With the new year 2020, I made a personal pledge to calm myself down. I am a coiled spring half the time. I chew my lips. I pace. Working at CatZero gives me an outlet for my excess energy, but I sometimes struggle to just sit quietly.[/p][p]This is where the cycling and a new gym membership comes in. So far IT DOESN'T quieten my mind or give me focus. I find myself thrashing through ideas in my mind. How I mount the cameras, editing in hotel rooms, live streams, blah, blah, blah. My ass hurts, my legs hurt, I'm out of breath, my heart is beating out of my chest! I still have hope that I can reach a zen state if only briefly!![/p][p]What have I gotten myself into? Skinny jeans, it seems. Painted on skinny jeans. 😂[/p][p][br][/p]
