My story

[p]Back in 1992, when The Children's Literacy Charity (known as Springboard for Children at the time) was established, I was the very first child they supported.[/p][p]I attended Oliver Goldsmith Primary School (Peckham) at the time and struggled to learn to read and write mainly because of dyslexia. This meant that I found it very difficult to engage in my schooling and had very little confidence in my abilities too.[/p][p]However, thanks to the amazing support of The Children’s Literacy Charity and the help I received from Jane and Toushy (my tutors), I was able to find ways to overcome dyslexia, which meant that I could take part in classroom activities and gain the confidence I needed to start enjoying school.[/p][p]Leaping forward many years; I am currently studying towards an Executive MBA, I have a good job as a property development consultant, one that I am very happy with, I do the odd bit of acting as a hobby and recently got married and had a baby. My life has taken an incredible path that I am incredibly happy about.[/p][p]Whilst I have gone through a lot during the last 25 years I can honestly say that The Children’s Literacy Charity helped me in ways that are hard to express in words and without the support of Jane and Toushy, I’m not sure I would have achieved what I have today.[/p][p]By way of rounding off my journey, I recently became a Trustee of The Children’s Literacy Charity which I am incredibly proud of as it means I can give something back and can support children who are experiencing similar literacy difficulties to what I faced years ago.[/p][p]If having read my story you would like to sponsor me to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon run in support of The Children’s Literacy Charity, I would be very grateful. Any sponsorship that you could give would mean a huge amount to me but, most importantly, it would enable children (like me back in 1992) to have the opportunity to improve their literacy skills and to achieve their true potential, changing their lives for the better.[/p][p]Thank you very much.[/p][p]Michael[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
