My story

[p][span=color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);]Having ran the London Marathon in 2014 and loving the experience, I always said I would love to run it again, however I swore I wouldn’t run it in a charity place, only if I got in through the ballot![lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Fast forward to July 2017 and this view changed completely! It was at the time that me & my family had the news we were dreading…my Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]The good news is the diagnosis meant Dad could start with the relevant medication, which has seen him make an improvement, which is great. However, as a family we are all aware this is what happens, but moving forward (and hopefully way into the future) things are going to get a lot tougher, mainly for my Dad, but also for me, my mum & my brother (not to mention other close family & friends). [/span] [/p][div=color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;][span=background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);][lt]br /[gt]With this in mind, I wanted to find other ways I could help support my Dad. So I decided to change my own rule on running the London Marathon for a charity and applied for a place with The Cure Parkinson's Trust. I now had a reason I felt passionately enough about to set about the challenge of running 26.2 miles again and also raising over £2500 for this great charity.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]So you may be thinking “Well he’s already run the marathon, how is this a challenge”. Well I can tell you a lot has changed in three and a half years, I’m older and nowhere near as fit as I was last time I ran this great event, so straight away, this is much more of a challenge in my eyes. However, I do have one secret weapon this time, I know the importance of training (in 2014 my longest training run was only 13 miles) so I won’t be making the same mistake again![lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Also, I’m pretty competitive. Not with others, but with myself! During the run in 2014 I was on my way to a 3 hour 30 minute finish which would have been faster than I ever could have hoped, however my lack of training caught up with me and for the last 6 miles I struggled with cramp in places in my legs I didn’t know you could get cramp, so I only managed to finish in a respectable 3 hours 53 minutes, I want to beat the time I was on for, so this is my challenge![lt]br /[gt][/span][span=color: #000000; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;] [/span][lt]br style="color: #000000; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" /[gt][/div] [div=color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;]I’m also toying with the idea of running a second marathon earlier in April or March, so watch this space![/div] [div=color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;]So please sponsor me to help the charity that one day may help my great dad recover from the disease! [/div] [div=color: #454545; font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;]Thanks, Trubes x[/div][lt]br /[gt][p] [/p]
