My story

[p]Two Wheels for Life supports programmes that ensure healthcare reaches the poorest and most remote communities in Africa. Where diseases such as TB, Malaria, HIV, and Ebola are still big killers; mother and infant mortality is very high. This is achieved by supporting the motorbikes and riders (Bikes, Training, Fuel, and Maintenance etc) that carry these vital supplies where they are needed the most.[/p][p]Here, many people live a long way from the nearest doctor or hospital. If they are to get care it needs to come to them. But this is not simple. Vehicles and fuel may not be available or reliable and there isn't the network of well-maintained roads or service centres many of us take for granted.[/p][p]The programmes Two Wheels for Life support are operated by Riders for Health in Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria and The Gambia. Riders’ work addresses those challenges. Working with the strength and generosity of the motorcycle community to ensure health care reaches those who need it they focus on the issue of transport for health workers, an essential but neglected aspect of healthcare in Africa.[/p][p]The work they do means that in the areas they operate nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers and medical couriers have appropriate, reliable and safe transport, meaning they can reach the people who need their help most. To learn more about their work, feel free to check out their website http://www.twowheelsforlife.org.uk/about-us [/p][p]I will be embarking on a very exciting yet quite challenging ride, starting in March 2019. Together with a group of bikers, we will travel from Cairo all the way down to Cape Town, covering in excess of 20,000 kms over a 3 month period. [/p][p]This is not my first long distance adventure ride as I have previously ridden from Argentina to Alaska (32,000 miles in 6 months –earths circumference is 24,901 miles!!) and UK to Thailand over the old northern Silk Road for 3 months covering nearly 15,000 miles.[/p][p]This however will be my first time raising charitable funds for Two Wheels for Life, and I truly hope that many of you will support their great cause along the way! I very much hope that you will follow my journey (and previous adventures) by following the adventure on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1500480026948404/[/p][p]Thank you very much in advance, let's show that motorcycles can and will save lives and reach this fundraising target![/p][p]Many thanks[/p][p]Mick[/p][p] [/p]
