Team story

[p]Hi,[/p][p]Thanks for visiting our CE Midstream fundraising page for our Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge in October 2014.[/p][p]A few facts about where we are going and what we are going to face:[/p][ul][li]Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895m (19,341) tall.[/li][li]The climb will take 6 days and cover almost 70km.[/li][li]Temperatures will vary from upwards of 40°C to -25°C![/li][li]There are 5 distinct vegetation zones - farmland, forest, moorland, desert and the frozen summit[/li][li]At 20,000ft the equivalent oxygen percentage in the atmosphere is 9.7% - a 53% reduction from sea level (21%). [/li][/ul][p]BIBS (Babies in Buscot Support) is a registered charity that supports babies and their families in the special care baby unit (Buscot Ward) at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. The committee and the supporters are all parents/carers of ex-Buscot babies who have been through the experience of having a premature or full term but ill baby.[/p][p]BIBS are currently hoping to raise money to buy a much needed Giraffe Omnibed Incubator (costing £29,000) for the Buscot Ward to give local premature and sick babies the chance in life they deserve.[/p][p]Along with their aim of purchasing a new Incubator BIBS are also constantly fundraising to purchase several other essential items for the Buscot Ward.  The below are a sample of what their amazing efforts funds:[/p][ul][li]£7 buys a soft Gel Pillow used by very tiny babies. Very small babies skulls are still very soft and not fully developed. The use of gel pillows helps maintain the shape and consistency of a tiny baby’s skull[/li][li]£25 covers the cost of a Nest, designed to provide appropriate positioning, support the neurodevelopment of a preterm infant and generally keep the baby snug and secure.[/li][li]£31 buys a Bendy Bumper, bendable positioning aids that stay in place until reshaped by the caregiver, to promote containment and provide a reflex stimulus for extremity extension and subsequent flexion recoil. [/li][li]£260 for a Screen to provide parents privacy with their baby.[/li][li]£1,200 purchases one Breast Pump [/li][li]£2,500 funds a Phototherapy light, for the baby’s incubators[/li][li]Plus many, many more...[/li][/ul][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to BIBS. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Andy, Chris, David, Greg, Guillaume, Ildiko, Justine, Nick, Phil, Sayf, Seb, Sebastian and Will.[/p][p]aka 'Team Midstream'[/p]
