My story

[p][br][/p][p]Thank you for visiting my page ![/p][p]Just to capture you for a few minutes might change someone’s life, bring them hope, happiness & a brighter future.[/p][br][p]I’m taking part in the London marathon this year to raise much needed funds for the wonderful charity Dementia Adventure .[/p][br][p]Dementia Adventure is a multi-awardwinning charity with a simple mission: to enable people with dementia to get outdoors, connect with nature & retain a sense of adventure. Often a person living with dementia finds that after diagnosis their life changes dramatically. They often feel that holidays, travel & outdoor activity are things that are no longer available to them. Yet there are huge benefits to keeping active and getting outdoors. Dementia Adventure specialises in delivering supported holidays and short breaks for people with dementia and their carers to enjoy together.[/p][p]Dementia is not a specific disease. It's an overall term that describes a group of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities and Alzheimer's disease can account for 60 to 80 percent of Dementia cases.[/p][p]We probably all know someone, someone dear, a friend, a friend of a friend, who has or does live with dementia. Both my Mum and Dad did, along with other members of our family. They loved being outside, they loved entertaining, Mum so enjoyed cooking (Dad had to keep clear or deliver quickly on every instruction !). Dad loved his garden and read books for England, all types of books, but not cook books ....[/p][p]Mum & Dad contracted Dementia, and it contributed immensely in reducing their activities and to a tough last couple of years, until they both passed peacefully up to a better place, and where they no doubt continue to shake their heads and fingers at me ![/p][p]Whilst not being the only combatants of Dementia, diet, exercise and mental stimulation through activity & socialising make a huge difference. [/p][p]Dementia Adventure aim to bring some of this to people living with Dementia, to make a difference to their lives, to bring happiness & hope.[/p][p]This marathon run is for Mum & Dad, and for all people with Dementia.[/p][p]Please help me make a difference. Any amount of sponsorship would be wonderful & greatly appreciated. The price of a pint, a glass of Prosecco or one of those late night shots, it all helps and I’m sure for some would be a small price to pay for the knowledge of 26 miles of pain inflicted on me ![/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to get this far, and thank you for your support and generosity.[/p][p]Cheers [/p][p]Mike [/p]
