My story

[p]UPDATE: I did it! Thank you so much to everyone for the support and sponsorship. You’ve been amazing – my target got beaten, then smashed, then left in the dust. That’s a fabulous amount to donate to a truly inspiring charity, staffed by dedicated, highly skilled people. [/p][p]Most of all, you’ve helped give countless children a much better start in life than they’d have had otherwise. Thank you. (And feel free to keep donating if you’d like to – this page will be open for a while!)[/p][p]----------------------------------------------------------------------[/p][p]I’m running the Marathon after a lifetime’s non-sporty-ness. I hated cross-country at school (I hated all sports at school), but decided it was time to start moving again last year. [/p][p]Then I got an email from ICAN, about running the Marathon. I almost deleted it instantly, then thought: why not? [/p][p]ICAN is a fantastic charity, as I know first hand – I did some work for them a few years back. As part of that, I visited their school in Surrey, where specialist teachers and therapists support and educate children with a huge range of communication disabilities. Have a look at my blog (links below) for more on this.[/p][p]Children with these speech and language problems can struggle desperately in the early years, especially as they are often undiagnosed – with devastating long-term consequences. [/p][p]I’m also conscious that ICAN is still not well-known enough. I’m pleased to be helping support, and spread the word about, a really fantastic organisation that deserves a much higher profile.[/p][p]So please give me a hand and sponsor as much as you can. It will ALL go to ICAN – Virgin don’t take any fees for this page.[/p][p]You can also keep up with my progress on the blog. [/p][p]Thanks to everyone who’s already donated, and to you if you’re about to![/p][p]Cheers[/p][p]Mike[/p]

I lied when I said I'd double it. I think 4.5 hours deserves a triple. Amazing. Congratulations.
