My story

[p]On Saturday 9th December at 17:18 we welcomed Albert Michael Simmonds, known as Bertie, into the world. He was born at 17:18 and weighed a little 2lbs 6oz. Bertie was born at 27 weeks and 3 days gestation. He was moved to Bristol St. Michael’s hospital shortly after he was born where they have more specialist care. He spent 8 days in Bristol and as he improved he came back to Intensive Care at Gloucester Hospital Neonatal Unit.[/p][p]Everyone involved has been fantastic and have been looking after him wonderfully well.[/p][p]Bertie is now 4 months old and on Sunday 8th April finally came home. There have been good days and difficult days, however he has been a little star throughout. Bertie is now a healthy and happy little baby boy. He is still requiring some oxygen support however we hope that in the coming months this he will be weaned off the support. [/p][p]On behalf of my wife Soph and eldest son Charlie, thank you very much to our friends and family who have been fantastic and supported us. Also, massive thanks to Gloucester Hospital Maternity, Gloucester Hospital Neonatal Unit, The Nest Team (http://www.nestteam.org/), St.Michaels’ Neonatal Unit in Bristol and Cots for Tots (https://www.cotsfortots.org.uk/home-page). [/p][p]In a time where the NHS gets its fair share of critisicism, we want to applaud the magnificent work which they have done. [/p][p]To show some thanks, we will be walking 37 miles on Saturday 19th May with some family and friends from St. Michael’s Hospital in Bristol to Gloucester Hospital. Please support this cause and help celebrate and appreciate the work which the NHS have done.[/p][p]* UPDATE, we successfully completed the walk!!![/p][p]Mike, Soph, Charlie and Bertie x[/p][p]MANY THANKS TO THE BELOW BUSINESS SPONSORS WHO HAVE DONATED GENEROUSLY IN TIME AND MONEY TO THIS GREAT CAUSE:[/p][p]* TruGreen - https://www.trugreen.co.uk/gloucestershire/ [/p][p]* Bridge Training - http://bridgetrainingltd.co.uk/[/p][p]* Hydro Building Systems - https://www.hydroextrusions.com/en/locations/europe/united-kingdom/offices/sapa-building-systems-tewkesbury/[/p][p]* Theoc House - http://www.theochouse.co.uk/[/p][p]* Tayntons - http://www.tayntons.co.uk/[/p][p]* K Collier Landscapes - http://kcollierlandscapes.co.uk/[/p][p]* KTz Travel - https://www.facebook.com/KtzTravel1[/p]
